Title: How tall is a typical bus entry door?
Post by: belfert on June 26, 2007, 06:26:15 PM
How tall is a typical bus entry door?  I'm thinking more of the newer MCIs like the MC-8 and up or the newer Prevosts.  Older buses like the GMC might have shorter doors.

My Dina bus entry door is extremely tall (108" I believe) and I don't want a new one to be that tall ,but I also don't want a new one to be so short I can't see out the window either.  (I'm not near my bus to see how tall the door needs to be to see out of it.)

Just walked outside and measured my MC9 door.  88" top to bottom. The opening is about 85".  The door overlaps the step on the bottom.
MC8 and MC9 is same door opening.

Cool..  The motorhome door I plan to buy is 84" tall.

I would rather get a custom door, but I lack the skills to do it myself and can't find anyone local to build one.  Dallas referred me to good fabricator not too far away, but the city shut him down.

I had two motorhome type doors made for my openings (kept the rear door since it goes directly into my bathroom).  I framed in the door with 1x3 fir strips and measured that opening for the doors.  After 12 years of numerous door slammings, the door is still tight.  It isn't as air tight as I'd like, but that's why bus doors are air assisted to stay tightly shut.  Good Luck, TomC

Belfert,
I am 6' 5" with a 5C and a 88" door. So unless you are way taller you should be fine with the door you have selected.

Good Luck with the installation.
Gary

P.S. I keep 1/2" wide foam insulation tape just in case the door seals are forgiving and wind noise starts driving me crazy. Only once for 2 hours return trip from Fla. - NJ.

I picked up a 28"x84" motorhome door today complete with frame.  I don't think air leaks will be an issue as I almost never hear of diesel pusher motorhome owners complaining about air leaks.  This door has a much more substantial latch than the inexpensive RV doors.  It is also very heavy.

The only bad part is I scraped off a bunch of the paint on the screen door by loading it wrong for the trip home.
