Title: Anyone close to Mattoon, IL ?!?!? I have a bus broke down there! No air pressure
Post by: Busted Knuckle on June 24, 2007, 06:31:37 AM
Hey anyone near Mattoon, IL ? I think he's at exit 184 off I-57! Dad is broke down there he's lost air pressure! I believe the compresser is the problem. He's at a Citgo convienence store, with no services available. He doesn't find a leak, and it's not trying to pump up. If you can help or know of someone who can call Dad (Gene) @ 270-703-1707 or you can call me (even though I'm in KS 5 hrs away!) Thanks! Bryce

Added Bryce's number. Richard

An easy check is to remove the line between the compressor governor and the compressor. plug the hole and start up the engine. if it builds pressure, it isn't the compressor.

Good luck, I hope they get going soon.

I hope this will help: Turner Transportation  or Illiana truck parts both are in Terre Haute In. Both company's are very good to deal with.
   Good Luck Dwayne

Thanks guys. Dallas yeah I all ready had him check that after he got the people take'n care of, and it ain't the unloader valves either. Looks like another bad compressor. I hope it ain't the fiber gear! This will be the second rebuilt compressor to fail in less than a yr! I guess I bragged on Prior Mfg. too soon! Thanks Dwayne I have dealt with Turner before, we used to have one of their old Setra's. I'd forgoten about them being there though, thanks for the reminder. BK

It's either another sheared pin on the internal gear on the compressor, or the fiber drive gear. We won't know until  tomarrow when dad goes back with more tools & parts to fix it ! I'll post as soon as I know more! BK  ;D

Dwayne I appreciate the offer, dad should be back to it around noon today. He went back to our shop and got more tools, a spare compressor, a spare govenor, and some rest. He's sure it's the compressor again, I just hope he's right and it's not the gear! By the way my sister & b i l who went and got mom & dad an took 'm back to TN live in Evansville also! Maybe we can get together sometime when I'm up that way visiting. Oh an thanks for he plug in offer too, but this is  a charter bus not a conversion (yet anyway! It is a 102A3 which would make mom an dad an excellant coach!) BK  ;D

OK here's the scoop! Dad finally made it back up to Mattoon, with tools and our trusty used compressor. He got the old one off and low and behold it was a broken key that appeared not to even be the proper size for the keyway! So on went the old one and he made it home with it. Dad had already contacted Prior when he got home about the recent failure, and they told him they'd ship one out right away no-charge (aw how nice, gag). Well when the new one arrives (probably today) I'll be checking it over very carefully before it gets installed. Then before I send the broken one back to Prior, I'm gonna call them and have a serious talk to a QC manager, explaining that they've left us on the side of the rd twice with a load of people with their poor rebuilding practices! Then I'm gonna ask him how HIS bosses will feel of my lawyer contacts the company about 2 loss of income lawsuits? I'm gonna tell him I have always bragged about there pricing, product availability, and service until now. But if this is the quality I can expect to see, then I'll just have to start telling people the bad stuff instead of the good. I'll post a follow up post on this after I make the call, to let y'all know what the outcome turns out to be!  BK  ;D
