Title: Back from Ohio
Post by: JerryH on June 20, 2007, 09:08:25 PM
Hey all...

Back from a few day trip from Bucks Co., PA to Sandusky, OH.  Specifically ... 'Cedar Point'.  Had a great time with kids on the coasters.  Took another family that we often travel with  ... fun time had by all.
Before leaving ... needed to get our annual PA State DOT inspection.  Ouch! $$$

Needed (2) new tires for my tags ... they were my oldest and I knew it was coming ... so no big surprise.  I needed (2) brake drums and pads on drive axle.  That was a surprise, since they weren't that old.  The cast iron mixing chamber for the exhaust was cracked ($$$) ... plus a few other items.

I did try a new mechanic for inspection.  The person I usually take it to was booked.  Luke doesn't do PA inspections ... or I would have taken coach there.  Found a nice facility actually closer to me.  When all was said and done, I was happy with work ... I thought the hours invested were relative to work completed.  His shop rate was $70- per hour, which I was fine with.  Price on parts he provided was fine.  I phone MCI (Hausman) in Blackwood, NJ and they were a little less ... but then I'd have a 2.5 hour roundtrip ride just to get the parts ... so I am fine with that.

I do need a minor adjustment to something they repaired on the air-tensioning cylinder for the 24v gen.  I ended up buying a new replacement cylinder from Luke.  Didn't opt for the rebuild kit -- I had no way to compress spring and reassemble.  Bill and Michael said it's a bear if you don't have a press (which I don't).

Found diesel in OH @ $2.66Gal.

Last but not least ... an MCI (appeared to be 9) passed us heading West on I-80 in western PA ... anyone from the board??

Nick:

Actually ... the 9 was heading west, we were heading east to home.
Yeah, the coasters were great ... I am starting the kids young on coasters.
As far as the show ... I am told an air date of (I believe) 10/14.

Jerry,
What was the name of the bus facility near Bucks County, PA?
How is Luke doing now? I heard his wife was ill.

Nick

If I was a betting man it could have something to do with his last post on June 3.

That post is locked and wouldn't want to raise old issues.

If I were a betting man I think I would take that bet.  Jerry was onlly asking a question in that June 3rd thread, and wasn't too closely involved in the situation.  Two and a half weeks later, he came back and posted an update on his Ohio trip.  I also exchanged messages with him about PA state inspection facilities a day or so later.  No hint of any problems.  I've met Jerry, and he certainly doesn't strike me as a guy who would still be thinking about the June 3 thread after three weeks.

jerry, if you're out there, next time let me know.  we're only about 15 min from ohio turnpike which you almost certainly were on.  We're also only about 30 miles from Cedar Point.

same goes for anyone else passing through.  always glad to exchange ideas, or meet another bus nut.
