Hi folks,
I'm away this weekend on the Maryland eastern shore and found myself with very little verizon air card reception. [no bars and no broadban]
A trip to Salsbury Verizon store and the fellow there inlighted me on a new type air card that has twice the speed of my presant card and also has
a antenna feature. It didn't take much to sell me on that since my plan has "new every two" feature. Yup free!
Back at the resort, I tried the new card and to my suprize, I had only one bar on national access but, the internet works like I'm on broad ban! Awsome...
This new card is USB, so I can easily switch computors by a plug..Nice! It's about 1 1/2"w x 3" tall x 1/2" thick. # USB-720

I can't wait to see how fast it is on broad ban back at home!

Nick, you should also be able to use a USB extension cord with it. You can sit at the desk and hang the "card" out the window.
Great Idea Jim!
I was wondering what that cord was for.......
Thanks

Now that I have a great connection, Just adding some pics of us at Island Resort Campground in Newark Maryland

and the cost per month is????
just wondering. i use my mobile office kit with my cell phone. right now, i just pay by the minute, which means free nites and weekends. but the speed is also 140k at best.
obviously, the new "card" gets the 512k EVDO speed. Anybody try connecting their new phone to the laptop instead of a card?
I've connect with my cell to my laptop as my main connection.
In certain areas we have seen up to 2Mbps, but around here we normally connect at between 140K and 350K with bursts down to 115K. It just depends on the reception we get and where we are.
Our entire package for 2 phones, unlimited data, 550minutes, nights after 7 and weekends free is $138/month.

Hi Tom,
I don't know all that bbs per ??.... but, it's faster then my broadban cable connection in my office.
The air card is $59.95 per month. And well worth the dollars for the unlimited use that I need. I connect with my busisness
programs while on the road and can even intercept incomming phone calls to dispatch my tech's. via e-mail.
I am usually on my cell phone while using the computer..Lol ;D
Nick-
I connect my Treo 650 to my laptop all the time. I usually get 192K with Verizon Broad band access. $49.00/mo.

How far am I from you?
I'm just off Rt.113 6 mi's south of Rt.50

I just finally dumped my Nextel service and switched back to my original SprintPCS service and got a new phone with data included. The data part was $10 extra a month. I figured that the $87 a month just for the Nextel with walkie talkie was not worth the money anymore. Thier Data sucked when I tried it and the regular service doesn't seem to work all that good anymore. Voicemail was taking 6 hours to alert me to a missed call. Even when I was wearing the phone it wouldn't connect.
So anyway, I will at least have email while using my laptop in the bus now.
I wanted to go to Verizon but couldn't make that sideways jump and have to sign another long contact for a data only service which I probably wouldn't use all that much anyway.
Dave....
Hey Nick! We are a LONG way apart right now. I am in VA on the western shore at my daughters! Using up their electric!! ;D ;D ;D
We live in Toddville MD., which is a long way from anywhere also. We are just south of the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and 6 miles east of World's End, Md.
I keep thinking we are going to get over to Bruce's one weekend but most are full of work (most of my customers frown on me shutting down their computer systems for maintenance while they are in the office!) or church stuff.
We'll get to meet you guys one of these days........

We connect our laptop to the internet using Paula's new motorola cell phone. It has high speed capabilites that my old LG does not have. I do not know the speed, but most places, it seems to be just about as quick as our DSL at home. We are using it now while we are parked next to Dallas & Cat in SC. We pay an additional $24.95 per month for unlimited use. We found out that Paula can receive a call and talk on her phone while I am online, although the speed slows down. Our service is with Alltel. Jack
I am using T-mobile as now, but in the market to get faster speed. I've been at sprint dealer & got couple thing left to check: rate for rooming in canada, compare speed with cable, & few condition in the "contract".
The verizon has me wonder with this:
" Anyone using more than 5 GB per line in a given month is presumed to be using the service in a manner prohibited above, and we reserve the right to immediately terminate the service of any such person without notice. We also reserve the right to terminate service upon expiration of Customer Agreement term"
as I want to use it as main internet connection, home & on the road & I do connect for 30-40+ hrs a week.
I guess I need to read the sprint contract too.
wrench
The contracts are confuseing! They show you a picture of a smileing person with there phone connected to a laptop. They sell you a data cable. They say you can use the phone for data. Then somewhere ele they say you cannot use the phone for data. That they will terminate you without notice if caught. Go into a phone store and ask. They will give you a definate maybe.
I've had Sprint with data for years, If I go into a Sprint store they will tell me they no longer support this service?
Here is a link to a forum for Sprint users. Maybe it will help.

I just checked my usage so far this month and have logged 62 hours 57 min and used 1702MB. I am using Verizon and haven't had anything said to me yet. I guess it is just an out for them if the network is getting slowed by huge bandwidth usage in an area.
I'm also using the Novatel U720, typically at about 800-1,000 kbps. With a great signal, 1,200 kbps down, about 400 kpbs upload. EVDO Rev-A. On Sprint.
Also using the Wilson Trucker antenna.
Inside da bus. Right now! :)
If you want to know *all* about this stuff, go to evdoinfo.com or evdoforums.com. Those guys are great and will help you every step of the way.
BTW, the 'dongle' (wire) isn't just for convenience. Most USB ports can't supply enough power and if you plug both wires in you can pull more amps from your computer for full power to the U720. Also helps to get it away from the screen if using a laptop.
Last few weeks I've been completely under a broad-leaved 'tree-tent' for awesome shade, at the expense of internet speed. (Guess which one I'd rather have! :)) And today it's raining all day, so here's my speed as of right now:

I'm useing a 15 foot USB extension cord for my WiFi hookup. I have to use something antenna will not work in the bus. I tried a powered USB port but it would not work with the WiFi adaptor.
