Title: generator panel
Post by: grantgoold on June 11, 2007, 11:07:17 PM
I found this panel on the e place. (300119823104) Anybody recognize this generator panel? If so, can you provide a manufacture and model number? How about a schematic.

Thanks

Grant

Grant, my best guess is that it's off a portable generator with solenoid driven high idle.  Can't see much value as far as a bus genset installation but you didn't specify what you had in mind for it.

I was thinking that a good sized genset could have this panel connected and allow the occasional "outside" connection separate from the bus. I have had many request for temporary power during camping and thought this might be a way to provide that power outside of the internal bus system.

Even at $100.00, can't go wrong-lots of usable equipment on the panel.  Good Luck, TomC

If all you want to do is provide an "outside" connection, you need a $6 circuit breaker, an $8 receptacle, and maybe $10-$20 in miscellaneous wire, j-boxes, and other parts.  So $85 for a panel that has *some* of that stuff on it (you'll likely still need an appropriately rated circuit breaker, wire, and other miscellaneous parts, not to mention some kind of mounting hardware for the weird panel) seems like overkill to me.  FWIW.

I've already crossed that bridge...and feel I've done it well.  When I got the bus the P/O had installed some sort of antique Honeywell relays to switch between the Shore and Utility sources.  My first thought was...where would I find replacements on the road?

Solution. Since the generator is protected with a 50A circuit breaker I just installed a 4 pole range receptacle for the output.  My shore cord has a 4 pole 50 amp plug so...Voila..problem solved.  I cannot connect to two sources at the same time.  When I want to connect to the generator..I just install the shore plug into the receptacle.

Now...we have two daughters in S. FL. If and when a storm comes and they're out of power I can pull up in the driveway with 148 gallons of fuel and a 12.5 KW generator and a 50' extension from the generator outlet and plug into their main panel.

It's a helluva way to get a free meal...but they're great cooks!
