I don't know what is in the cooling system now ,but I added water after convertion and not being sure what the mix is, can some one tell me how many gal of the premix coolant for a eagle 10, 6V92 I need? How do I drain the lines and heater cores or is just radiate and engine block enough to add premix?
RMC
Hi RMC
The Eagle Manual states coolant capacity is 15 gallons, including the heating system and surge tank. I was wrong but the mixture is 50/50 of ethylene glycol and water, the manual also states do not use methoxy propanol based antifreeze in Detroit Diesel Engines. Me,Myself, and I have not changed the cooling system so I do not know how to drain or what to be aware of. Please can someone else help in draining and filling the system. Thankyou. P.S. Have a good trip and be safe. Give us a call!! Richard
Not knowing what is in there I would either drain it all flush and replace........or just test it to confirm it's capabilities.
I doubt you addred enough water that it would freeze on you unless maybe if you live in Alaska
If the system is 15 gallons and you use premix you would use 15 gallons of premix. If you by pure antifreeze you will need 7.5 gallons and 7.5 gallons of water to reach a 50/50 mix. You could test it and adjust it for the temp/protection you prefer with straight antifreeze.
Every recommendation I have ever read for this type of situation is to do a complete clush with the approved flush chemicals, then flush a couple of times with distilled water, drain and add the correct antifreeze mixture. Check to make sure you have the correct ratio and then make sure you do a very good of removing any air pockets in the system.

I'm just getting back to my bus from a long hiatus and I can't remember the details, but I had some test strips (which I cannot find) I got from a truck repair shop that tested the additives in antifreeze. As I recall, regarding Detroit Diesels, there is more to antifreeze than just the mix/freezing point. It concerns corrosion protection to the liners. You can buy some additives as needed. I don't think these corrosion inhibitors are compatable with Methoxy Propanol Antifreeze. When you put new ethylene glycol in it has these inhibitors in it but they gradually disapear after time and can be replenished without replacing all of the antifreeze.Wish I could remember more, but I would check with a knowlegable DD mechanic.
