Took the Fishbowl to town to get it Regesterd to me . Ran like a top.. ;D
Its easier to steer, took left and right turns with one hand, and NO power steering.
I had to, i had a Big Gulp in the other ::)
The DMV wanted Other numbers, aside from those on the Plate in the Bus.?? T6H4521 271.. ??????
Dont know where they would be. Also they wanted Engine numbers.. Where would you find that ???
Its a 6V71. Is there a place where they have a Number ???
Over all its a GAS to drive her... I'd had to drive her 1000 miles from Burbank Ca. But the Seat was lousy, the New captains chair is Wonderful.. ;D ;D ;D
Brakes seem weak, that will be the next project.. ;)
Paul....
Good deal. I am picking up my 72 Fish on friday and I hope I have better luck with the DMV. I am interested to see how that is going to turn out.
Paul -
The plate in the bus is the correct VIN (T6H4521-271). The DMV technician is probably a youngster who doesn't realize that 17 digit VINs didn't exist until the early 1980s. If you have any problems again, ask for a supervisor. IIRC, the VIN is also stamped into the "frame rail" inside the RF wheelwell on a Fishbowl.
The engine serial number is located on a flat machined area of the block below the exhaust manifold and above the air box inspection plates, on the cooling fan end of the engine. Might be on the firewall side, thus virtually impossible to read. Tell the DMV technician if he really wants the number, he can crawl into the engine compartment himself and look for it.
Stupid bureaurats. . .
BTW, Paul (and others!!) - it would be helpful to other busnuts if you posted at least the city and state where you reside either on your profile or in you signature. You can add this info by going to the Profile tab at the top of the page. Makes it a lot easier to direct you to local suppliers, help others, etc.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
Here in NM you have to have the engine number and the vin to register when the old title is from out of state I also had to get the engine number. ( I couldn't read the whole number so just gave the part I could and pointed the tech in the direction where it was on the engine ) I finally had to get the complete engine number so I could find out about some stuff from detroit deisel.
Good luck.

Way to go Paul,
Now make sure you take the bus grocery shopping too...
Nick-
Took me six trips to the DMV and a visit from the State Police to get my title (They thought that they could find a hidden vin #; whatever, like I'm a dumb a$$ >:(). They had a hard time believing 4106-1063 was all there was. A real PIA, but worth it.
Everything Oki Doki, Got the Plates, New title and No additional Vin Numbers ;D
hehehe I send in the Form for my FREE Plates in a couple days.. Purple Heart recipients in New Mexico, get their Lic Plates FREE ;) they are Good for 50 years too !
LOL..... :-* When im 110 , I'll have to get New ones.. ::)
I'm moving to New Mexico, I want free plates too!!!!
Not only should Purple Hearts get Free plates they should also have all fees waived at the DMV!!!!
Just my humble opinion and I am not a Purple Heart recipient, just grateful for those who are so I can have the freedom of converting my own bus!!!
Thanks

I echo grantgoold on the Purple Heart recipients.
But, superpickle, I would like to see you get those brakes taken care of ASAP!
Your sitting on a lot of machine and if there's one thing that needs to work right every single time, it's BREAKS (oops, I mean BRAKES)!!!
So few people appreciate fishbowls. I've had two and both were great buses. The first was a T8H5306A and the one i own now is an SDM5302.
I thought that they were U-G-L-Y when I first saw one. That combined with the general consensus to their being a not so good choice for a conversion I never considered owning one. As time went on I started to appreciate their place in bus history and they began to grow on me. Then I made the mistake of going to look at one and take it for a test drive.....
Yup, getting Brakes donr Next...
Fishbowls are Ugly... But they are Too Too Cool Too ???
Any who, they are a Total gas to take on a Long drive. One thing, You get Waves, Looks, Stares, and all the above at once.. When I picked her up in Burbank, I stopped a few miles down the highway at a Wallmart to get a bite to eat an Air mattress and Sleeping Bag.. I was sitting in the Dinette Eating and looking at a map, I noticed a car pull right up to the front, this guy was leaning foward in his car looiking up inside the bus. H gave me a Hugh Grin and a Thumbs Up.. I smiled and Nodded back. Still grinning, he backed up and drove away.. He looked like one of those "Gee I always wanted to get on of Those" kind of guys.. He probably slept next to his Overbearing wife that night and Dreamed of owneing a BUS.. LOL...
I even had those Big Eagle and Prevost guys going the Other way on the road, Staring at it.. I LOVED IT, LOL , LOL , LOL. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ::)
:P
I Love my Fishbowl. :) and very easy to find a parts bus, that are cheap. I have two. So far my donor buses have donated. V730, power steering complete, panels, switches, 8V71 with jakes (future swap after rebuild) Bigger finned brake drums. etc... lots of gooood! stuff. :)

I know what that's like! Driving the 4103 through small towns on my way home the "first" day and to/from the race track I get those looks. One day I was driving past a small town general store (you know the kind, it's a barn with a gas pump and chairs and benches out front), and a young boy and his Graddad are out front. The little boy jumps up and starts waving like crazy, and Grandpa just gets this big smile on his face.
So what do I do? I smile, wave back, and give a couple of short blasts on the air horns.
Yep, it's gonna be great taking the bus on longer trips. I just "hate" answering questions and showing off the bus.
