Went out to the shop where my coach has been parked for several days and the propane detector was sounding. I couldn't smell anything but shut off the gas at the tank and reset the detector.
A couple of hours later it went off again. Turns out my inverter/charger, an old Heart EMS2800 must have crapped cause the batteries were just boiling. Probably lost the batteries and the charger, I'll check it out later.
Anyway, the propane detector can smell Hydrogen.

I think what the LP detector actually does is detect combustible gasses. Like propane, hydrogen, methane etc? ???

RV Propane and CO detectors are notorious for false alarms. I've had to disconnect my CO detector completely because it keeps going off, usually at 3:00 in the morning! I've never fully determined what it's sensing, but it's not CO.
At least you got a warning before your batteries went boom!
