Hi All
I'm putting in the sliding door between bathroom-kitchen and bathroom-bedroom and looking for ideas on hardware. The standard pocket door hardware uses door thickness of 1 1/8-1 1/2" and I'm planning a door thickness of 3/4". Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

Our bathroom has a pocket door and I thought about the thickness at 3/4 inch but that left me a problem with the weight of the door and the long term movement of the door. I ended up using an inch and a quarter thick door with 1/2 inch guide walls, I used a 2x2 along the floor with the plywood sheathing on both the inside and outside walls with the door sandwiched in between and it worked out well for us. The hollow core door I used is much lighter than the sheet of plywood I probably would have used had I stayed with the 3/4 inch thickness. Pocket door hardware is much more readily available, you can use the hardware for a sliding closet door with a 3/4 inch thick door but it may create alignment problems down the road and is prone to swinging slightly which causes wear and becomes more pronounced over time.
Hi Rob ... see my post on BNO.
Here it is:
QuoteHi Rob ... I used pocket door hardware, I have mirrors on both sides of the door. What you could use is a 24" drawer slide. and some kind of lock when it's open for travel.

Rob,
Ditto on BNO.

Here it is:
QuoteYou could use a recessed handle, normally used for by pass doors for closets. Then some kind of turn latch to secure the door. I used a normal 1 3/8" hollow core oak door for mine in a standard pocket door frame, using the standard hardware. Works for me.

I saw a graet idea, busnuts are loaded with these. the pocket door was done in such a way that one side was exposed weather open or closed. Hard to explaine without a picture. The bathroom side of the door is the the same color as the wall, so in either position, it looks like the wall. There is an opening in the perpendicular wall through which it slides.
The advantage to this is saving the wall thickness of the pocket walls, could be up to a 2 inch savings! HTH
I am in the glass business and we use alot of high quality hardware for hanging sliding doors, not usually pocket doors, but the glass only, no frame work.It seems like it would work for your application. We often install heavy glass sliding doors with top mount or through the glass mount hardware. The glass is usually 1/2" thick. If I can be of any help, let me know. I am in socal and have alot of this kind of stuff laying around.
