Am trying to fix a non-op throttle cable. Seems the prior owner lost the insert for the lock nut that grips on the throttle cable. Any better ideas than just sticking in a piece of aluminum and tightening that down to see if that will work?
Just in case any of you lose that insert in the cable lock, here is a good cheap home repair. I took a coarse thread dry wall type of screw that was about 1 1/4" long. I used a visegrip to hold it and snapped off the head, then turned it around and snapped off the point to make it the right length. It fit under the locking clamp very well and grips the cable almost as well as the original part did. I drove about an hour to warm up the engine for an oil change and it works great!
John,
Thanks for the follow-up. It is always great to hear about the ingenuity of busnuts. Jack
Thanks Jack, but actually the credit has to go to my friend. While i was fretting about what to use to fix this, she simply says "Can't you just use part of a screw?" It was a brilliant idea and worked like a charm.
