Krappp. We Rewired all the circuits for the transmission. The switches were weak and the New wiring Blew them.. Now I need to FIND, 3 Push Button switches for the Dash panel... :(
I'm going to have a Breakdown now.. is that OK?
:'( :'( :'( :'(
wheres my Blankee !!!!!
I don't know anything about your problem....I had just had to write and say you made me laugh so hard.....
wheres my Blankee !!!!!
Keep that sense of humor.......I think you are going to need it...... ;D ;D ;D

Could we have a little more information on this "The switches were weak and the New wiring Blew them". Wiring does not usually affect the switches and what do you mean that the switches were weak?
I agree with Stan, that there maybe a problem with the "new" wiring. My experience is that "stuff" happens for a reason, and before installing a replacement control I would double check for a wiring short etc. Smoking the second control would require more blankee time.
Gary
Superpickle,
I have to agree with Stan & Gary, the new wiring didn't "blow" the old switches. The switches aren't fuses...(I know, you knew that). But double check your wiring. Sounds like a wiring mistake to me. Please let us know. HTH

Actualy , Mechnic thinks the "2D72
MICRO SWITCHS" are worn out,They were manufactured in 1974. Dont know how they were ALL made in 74 unless they were ALL replaced.. the Neutral switch works fine, but the Reverse and Forward are VERY sporatic at best..i fact he had to use the Reverse switch to get it moveing Forward , so now the Backup lights come on ;D
I found a place in Ohio that carries them in stock, BUT, the Warehouse was Flooded out and the switches were lost.. (DAMB >:()
Just when i needed them... tsk tsk tsk :(
Any who, they are looking for more.. (hopea Hopea Hopea) :-\
Wareing out the Sattiny soft stuff on my Blankee real fast.. Thumbs all Wrinkly too ::)
;D Paul.....
Microswitch is a brand name and the switch will have the Microswitch number on it. You should be able to find a dealer on the internet. If a Microswitch goes click-click it is usuall OK. The normal failure is the operating lever gets broken off. Microswitches are rated for millions of switching operations and I doubt that your transmission has been shifted that much.
It is time to do some serious trobleshooting instead of just changing parts. A very simple test would be to just short the terminals of the questionable switch and see if the transmission shifts. I don't know why the reverse switch would put you into a forward gear. Like others have said, do some double checking on the wiring.
If it is not a Microswitch but some other brand, just get the name and number of the switch and do a search to find a dealer if you need switches.
Thanks: Stan. I will have him look harder at this from the point of view that theres a short someplace..

If you are not doing this work yourself, it might be time to get help from someone with wiring experience and not just big wrenches. If your mechanic rewired your transmission and now can't make it work you need more help than the same mechanic.

Things started to get messed up when he took the dash apart to get at the Turnsignal wires.. after that, the Shift buttons wouldn't work half the time. BUT they were giving me trouble on the way here from Calif. Reverse didn't work Most of the time, I was told by the seller. I used it, but it Didnt want to work and Ground gears.
Mechanic is doing it By The Book, And is finding All kinds of stuff wired up Differently.. So hes trying to get it set up like the Manual shows it.. There were Wires taped off all over the place, Have no idea why or what they went to.. ????? Hes replacing all the terminals in the Spaghetti Box in the engine bay. He found Bad wireing on the Generater, that made the power Pulse all the tim. its working well now..So, I think he is doing a fairly good job. Thing is, aint many folk know much about these old girls anymore ::)
Thanks.. Paul... ;D
Superpicle: You need to do some (a lot) of logical thinking about this. If you push the Reverse switch and the transmission grinds gears, why would you suspect a bad switch? Tracing out wires on a bus is much easier to do by two people and it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to check out the transmission wiring when you have the manual with the wiring diagram.
The key to finding problems, whether mechanical or electrical, is knowing how and why things work. Without that knowledge, you are like a dog chasing his tail that doesn't know what to do when he catches it. A $5.00 meter from Harbor Freight will quickly locate 90% of the electrical problems in a bus that doesn't have DDEC.
Superpickle,
If you have a wiring schematic for your coach it is faily easly to check wiring and problems, if you don't you are shooting in the dark. Understanding your system is a must. Before taking apart any wiring, if there are no numbers to indicate what it is for, put a tempory number on them. Then at least you can hook them back up. If you are unsure where it goes, trace it back to the source. Understanding your electrical is mandatory if you want to fix something.
I had a lot of extra wires installed by PO's in the dash area. It was a mess. After I received my schematic it made more sense and was able to remove anything that was not correct.
FWIW,
Paul
