I need to install a electric boost pressure gauge on a 8V98 MUI. Are the plugs in the casting between the turbo air out neck and the supercharger where the sensor should be installed/ See attached photo. I cannot find any plugs or fittings on the turbo. Thanks, Jack
Yes, Jack that looks like a good spot.It needs to be in the manifold between the turbo and the blower. Donn
Jack,
1. You keep a very clean engine.
2. I have a 6V92 with turbo.
3. My question is if I were to add a boost guage, what exactly can I do with the information, Is there a overboost condition I should be wary of not to exceed ? If I am easy on the acceleration, and keep the speed to a 70 MPG limit would I still be able to over boost the engine ?
I know in aircraft there are waste gates to dump excess boost, both manual and automatic units. Not sure on the Bus as to how to utilize the boost measure info.
Thanks in advance,
Gary
Just read a previous post with info on the Boost guage readings with, without load etc. Still seems to me just a indication of load, without any manner to control. Maybe I may just really missing the point here.

Thanks Gary,
Actually this is not my bus, I have an 8v71 in our MC-8. This is a 102a3/ 8v92/ 740 that belongs to a friend. I do not know how he will use the information the gauge provides (I also installed a pyrometer on this bus) . He did recently have new bearings installed as well as larger injectors and a different turbo housing to increase the HP & torque. He also had Jakes installed at the same time. Jack
I use my boost gauge about like i use my tach because when you are putting out 25# it takes a lot more fuel to get the 25# of boost on my 8v92, at 70 mph i have 12 to 15# a DD dealer told me the more air the more leaks and i found that to be true on my engine
Jack.
Thanks for the clarification, I should have picked on the same. With the mods to increase preformance from this engine I can see how the owner would want to monitor this indication of power.
Funny one owner is upgrading increased power, I just had a conversation with my wife as to if I hold to 60 mph, we could save about $170 in fuel but add 2.5 hours to a 1,200 mile trip to SW Fla.
Maybe if fuel hits $ 4.00.....I will try it.
Thanks
Gary

Gary,
When you get to SW Fla. be sure and stop by. I have a friend visiting now at our place that has a 79 5C. I know what you mean about driving slower and saving fuel (money). We are getting ready to leave on a trip and plan to TRY to drive slower, save fuel (money) and take time to smell the roses. Jack
Hello.
Boost gauge may be used to manage fuel economy in a turbo charged diesel the same way a vacuum gauge may be used on a gasoline engine.
Less boost equates less work and better fuel economy. ( more vacuum is good on the gasser)
Foreign idea to most of us, since we have little to no extra horsepower which to choose to not use!
As for slowing down, $170 over 2 1/2 hours? That's $68 an hour, in after tax income, SAVED.
Your personal time is worth spending that unneccessarily?
If the whole nation slowed down.... the fuel saved would be significant.....never mind, y'all tried that with the 55 in the 70's and no one wanted to play that game.
Those with oil investements would like to thank everyone for driving fast!
happy coaching!

BW,
You are right on as to the fuel savings opportunity out there. I live in NJ however and would road kill in 3 minutes if I drove 55. Maybe 5 minutes in the bus.
No to Hi Jack but I read recently that if you accelerate very slowly you waste more fuel than a moderate accel... No quantification as to what is slow etc, but interesting. Maybe placating to our need for speed.
Jack is right we need to slow down to smell the roses.
As for my extra 2 1/2 hours I do a 1200 mile trip in two days and try to make the second day "easier" and get to our destination by early mid afternoon. Selfish and I should try the 60 mph.
Jack I will let you know when I maybe in the area. I go to Cape Coral.
Thanks & Have a Great Day.
Gary
Gary,
We are off SR 31 south of Arcadia. Just a hop, ship, and jump from Cape Coral (actually about 35-40 minutes). Jack
