Title: Renting a bus out
Post by: JT4SC on May 24, 2007, 08:52:53 AM
I am thinking of buying a bus and offering it as a private rental, not unlike Cruise America or any of these other RV rental places, only do it with a bus.  Any insights from people who are already doing this or have thought about doint this??

Thanks!!

The problem is the damage that can accrue from people that have no idea how to drive a large vehicle. We have a RV rental place in our town ... the units, 26' to 32' class C's, come back with roof air wiped off the roof, holes in the sides, rear bumpers bent ... you get the picture and this is on a small unit compared to a 40' bus. The units are sold every 3 yrs and replaced with new.

The only way I would do this is if there was a pro driver (tow a toad) and he stayed at a motel after the unit was parked and set-up.

insurance is very costly and you may have trouble getting insurance on an older coach in this application.

Biggest issue is going to be getting your money from people when the F stuff up.

not hard to do thousands of $$ damage to a bus in short order.

much cheaper to repair a sticks and staples MH than a BUs.

Ron hit the nail on the head. Rent the bus WITH a driver. I do some driving for a rental co. like you describe. It works good for everyone.
Best,
Justin

Between the insurance hassles, the damages and goofy idiots it'd attract. I wouldn't think of it! FWIW  BK

I know several people that rent (lease) entertainer coaches. The first rule is: ABSOLUTELY no one drives their bues except their drivers. When you lease a coach, you agree to use their driver. I think the prices start at about 4K/month plus extras (driver, fuel, etc.)  I think finding an insurance policy to cover a bus with "anybody" driving it would be very difficult and/or expensive. I know there are very few people I will allow to drive my bus.  Jack

Jack, I have the opposite problem! Everyone I know calls me wanting me to drive their bus(es) as if I don't have some of my own to drive! LOL! Oh well comes with the territory I guess, because if I ain't doin' anything else at the time or can get mine covered I usually end up covering it for them! BK  ;D
