My son brought home a can of the above and it only sprays clear. I don't like the spray and haven't bought one in a long time but the older ones sprayed a medium dark gray color. When they got old and wouldn't mix when shaken they would spray clear.
Has the spray changed lately? I know the liquid extend is still a light milky gray.
Gus,
All of the ones I have used have always been clear. They seem to work well enough for me to keep buying them, but I do have remove as much rust as I can because it doesn't convert chunks.
I agree with Barn Owl. That's the way it worked for me. I think as long as the rust turns dark (black or blue, whatever) it is fine. I do like the stuff and use it on all my Hot Rods.
Chaz
Thanks guys, I was concerned that it had sat on the store shelf too long and was not mixing when shaken.
It doesn't seem to turn the rust black instantly like the liquid. We were using it on some rusted iron pipe which had a perfect thin all over coat of rust. It turned darker but not the jet black i get with the liquid. I use mostly the Kleen Strip liquid from the WalMart auto body supplies section, haven't used Extend for quite a while because the KS is easier to find for me.
I don't think any of it will convert chunks. It will convert the surface of the chunk but underneath the rust just keeps on growing. That has been my experience anyway.
Thanks again for your responses.
I am preparing to have my own bus "de-rusted" and have heard good things about two products POR-15 and Rust Bullet. from what I have read, loose rust particles must first be brushed off and then the liquid applied to a solid (rusty) surface. I am hoping that it will be that easy as I have surface rust benerath the windows of my fishbowl, (common) but no areas that are rusted through or even deeply corroded.
