Title: i've sprung a leak
Post by: James77MCI8 on May 19, 2007, 07:06:05 PM
I have oil leaking below the starter on my 8V-71. Right above the starter is a 1/4" line. Looks lik an oil line. Does any one know if this is an oil line and if so what is it going too?

                         Thanks,
                                     James

Might be a "weep tube" ? My understanding is that when the shaft seals on the blower start to age they begin leaking. Engine oil leaks into the blower box and these tubes (one on each side) allow the oil to drain out. Fairly normal situation with an aging DT from my understanding. (If its not running its not leaking)

Sounds like maybe the oil line going to your air compressor.

It is not coming from the air box drains. It is above that. The line am refering to is attached to the engine block and heads upwards. It is a quarter inch copper or steel. Can't make out the material as it has been painted.  Thanks

Thanks Prather. After a closer inspection this morning (and more light) it looks like that is where it goes. Looks like it is a pain to repair.
