My MC-8 has a rear mechanical temp gauge like most. However, the 'bulb' part of it isn't connected to anything. I don't really see a location to connect it. I have two sending units in each manifold that comes off the engine leading to the radiators. The only reason I really even care is to get an idea of how accurate my dash gauge is. I could use the thermocouple on my multimeter as a test, but it'd be nice to have something back there permanently mounted to give me an idea of the water temp. I thought about just strapping the bulb sender to the brass pipe leading from the engine to the manifold and covering the section with a bit of insulation. It wouldn't be as accurate, but could suffice if nothing else is available. What would be really helpful is a pic of where the mechanical sender connects from somebody who has an 8V-71 and a rear temp. If anybody has one and wouldn't mind posting a pic, it'd be greatly appreciated. As a side note, I didn't even know I had a rear oil pressure gauge 'til I pressure washed that area and 'discovered' it. Something on that oil manifold has a small leak, but that seems to be where most of my oil leaks originate. Thanks for any help.

Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

Since no one else has replied, I will try to answer from memory. The 8V71s that I had used a temeperature sender (electric gauge) and a high temperature switch (warning light) in the left side and the right side had the high temperature switch (shut down) and the rear mechanical gauge bulb.
You seem to have an additional sender for some purpose. Have you identified all the devices to see what they do? Disconnecting the wire and/or shorting the wire to ground should show which is what. HTH
David,
We added an additional electric gauge up front so we can monitor each cylinder head water temperature. We also have a HOT ENGINE alarmstat on each cylinder head. we also have a mechanical gauge in the engine compartment. The drivers side thermostat housing has a alarmstat sender and a sender for the electric gauge up front. The passenger side housing has the same as above in addition to a bulb type sender for the mechanical gauge. The bulb sender is the bottom one. The sender colsest to the engine block is for the electric gauge and the other one is for the alarmstat. Jack
Jack,
Thanks a lot for the pic. That really helps. It's no wonder I couldn't find the location on mine; the fuel lines are right on top of it. I guess I'll have to wait 'til I replace radiator hoses to hook it up (I'm sure I'll lose coolant by removing the plug that's in there now. I believe it wasn't re-connected when the engine was rebuilt (prior to my buying the bus).

David: You will need the adaptor fitting that goes from the pipe thread in the engine to the threaded nut on the temperature bulb.

I couldn't even find where this hooked up in the parts manual. I guess a call to Luke is in 'order'! Thanks for the additional info.

David,
Look at the photo I posted, then look at you bulb sender. Maybe you will be lucky and the adapter will be on the bulb sender. No point in buying something you do not need. Jack
