I was in at BJ's the other day and found back in the automotive department
the cutest little color backup camera and LCD monitor system. Club price $89.95
Is wireless and uses the 12 volts from the backup lights to power the camera
and the Monitor is very small and sits nicely up front.
Not a large LCD but nice detail, Would be good for blind spots or even door view monitoring.
This is the MFR website... http://www.roadmasterusa.com/backupcamera_vr3.php
Kinda Neat and gonna work great for all kinds of things.
I did find out that the camera will run on a 9 volt battery just fine. Makes me think that it could be used
for inspection on a stick to look in tight places and such.
Just thought I would share the info....
Dave.....
Looks neat! What's BJ's ??
BJ's is like Sams and Costco ( Berkley & Jensen brands )
I don't know if they have stores all over...
DrDave looks pretty cool! Any idea what type of range they have? Have you checked to see what kinda signal you get from 40'-45' away? I'm definently interested in 1 or maybe even several of them! What is BJ's and where all are they located? Got me wondering now! BK ;D
Opps, I see you was telling wht BJ's is as I was asking! BK ;D

I could see adding these to your mirrors that would be neat, But I don't think you would want to replace your mirrors because if you had a problem with the camera or monitor you would still have your mirrors. By replacing your mirrors you might be blind to what is going on behind and to your side if you had a problem with the system.
My guess is that you might get a better overall view with the camera, and if you could get it set up with a split screen for right and left that would be the best of both worlds.
Neat product at a good price.

I got the one they sell at wallmart....
The signal from the camera is iffy at best. All the metal in my bus must interfere with it.
And the display feels like the size of a postage stamp unless you mount it right in front of your face.
.
I got the one Walmart sells for a christmas gift, I'm not impressed with it at all, I think it's more geared to be used on a car or pickup instead of a 40fter and my neighbors garage door openers seems to interfer with the wireless part of it, I loose signal if he opens the door or closes it, I'm wondering if I can reprogram it to change his tv channel lol. I've heard that more companies are bringing out these cameras and I'm watching for the next generation of them and the improvements that are bound to come.
Dr.Dave, We elect you to buy a few of these and run them through a battery of tests and give us a full unbiased report on their performance, sort of a bus-sumer report.
Second.
Got the one from Costco at about the same price. Put it in the horse trailer, with the monitor in the pick up. Doesn't work well at all. It seems the signal can't make it through all the obstacles. I wouldn't even try it on the bus...
If a person was going to us a wired system - what wires would be needed to run the camera and monitor?
I am thinking about running the wires to have the option down the road of installing the camera...
Thanks,
Danny

Ohh.. Geezeeee You want me to spend money, I am already in the hole just for buying that one. My wife insisted that I go into
the store with her. I don't think she will do that again.
Kinda like if I ask her if she want's to go to Harbor Freight.. I know the answer and it gets expensive so I try to to even avoid the hint that I am going.
I use wired camera's on my bus and at home. The wireless stuff is usually limited range anyway so those are just to play with.
I will take it out to the bus and see if it will work from the back bumper to the dash area and let you know.
The monitor is rather tiny however and there are no external connectors on it except the power jack.
I haven't found out what frequency they are on yet as the documentation doesn't really say.
Dr. Dave
My wireless is selectable between ch 3 and 4
