Title: Replacement Mirrors
Post by: chargePlus on May 06, 2007, 12:03:52 PM
Hey Folks,

I'm interested in replacing the mirrors on our 4103. The exiting hardware is corroded and the bolt heads have sheared off while I was trying to loosen them to adjust the mirrors. I believe that I have the original mounting brackets.

I'd like to get a mirror unit that has a standard mirror and a convex wide-angle mirror in the same unit. However, if I can get original 4103 mirrors I'd figure out a good way add a convex mirror.

I'm not interested in the West Coast style mirror. I do like:

But I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks,

Hi John,

I went through the same thing on my 4905.

When I took the mirrors off, everthing was seized or busted.

I wasn't especially fond of the factory mirrors anyway.

Ended up with a set of used Ramco takeoffs.

If you can try the different mounting bases you may find one that matches the contor of your coach.

Mine were not made for the 4905, but fit.  The heads are interchangeable.

I really like the power mirrors and heater.

Many a times I have used it to get a better view of whatever when backing up or the back of something walking by when going forward.   ;D LOL

If you can get to a salvage yard you may find a real bargain.

I do not own a 4905, However I DO love my Ramco's.
I have seen others but these just allow me ot clear my turns without a problem. Very easy to see the far rear on top and the short rear with the bottom convex.
A friend who drives trucks, commented on them first thing when he got in...

IMHO GP

Dave,

Thanks! Those fit the budget, and I can figure out how to mount an arm if I need one. It doesn't hurt that SE Bus is "local" to me, probably an hour or so from Hillsborough, or maybe 15 minutes from where my wife works.

Just a bit of trivia:

This mirror. . .

http://www.sebusparts.com/servlet/the-241/velvac-wide-angle-mirror/Detail

. . . is similar to, but smaller than, the common one used for years by transit buses on the RH side.   All by itself. . .

That's right - an 8" x 8" convex mirror only.

Want to try parallel parking with it?

How about a freeway lane change?

Or even just a RH turn?

Makes one respect what a transit driver has to deal with a little bit more, doesn't it?

;)
