I am working on a 77 Prevost with sheppard steering . The gear box connected to the bus axle is sloppy, appears to be in the gear and rack as the first gear box and universial joints are all tight. The casting # is 100404. Are there still parts available for this vintage steering.
Prevost says no supplier known. Anyone got ideas as to the best fix.By the way my 80 Prevost has been converted to Ross. But that's a lot of work .
Tks Gary
I recently converted my manual with air assist to full Sheppard power steering-what a difference! The steering gear was a take off from another transit of the same model. I had the steering gear rebuild and installed a new Vickers pump (does whine even when warm, but not bad-use 15W-40 engine oil in it). There are shops that can overhaul the boxes. Sheppard is still being made-although maybe not your specific box. Good Luck, TomC

There is a company called Power Steering Specialist' in Westerville, OH. Very good at what they do. the name says it all...They have new, reman, used, etc.......I cannot remember the phone #. Call Steve at IBP (800)468-5287 for the phone #, he has it in the data base.

Hey guys, In everybody's opinion, what is the best power steering system for an eagle? thanks
The cheapest and easiest is to adapt a truck steering box mounted on the frame. Good Luck, TomC
Hi, There is a sheppard box on Ebay right now. If you do a search, it might be the one you are needing. Cary 4107
