We went to restock our oil supply today. A wholesale house informed us that Chevron has discontinued making the 100. I found some at another location, but what will we be using in the future? Don and Cary
I use Shell Rotella 40W. Jack
I went to a Detroit dealer and bought detroit's brand of #40 wt oil . Jerry
Here's the website for the API.

You can pick your favorite oil and then search more to find out if it's what you would like to use.
By the way, Chevron Delo 100 has been rebranded as Texaco Ursa, Since Chevron and Texaco are the same company now.
I guess they don't want to have two competeing brands of the same thing.
I hope this helps
Dallas
FWIW Texaco Ursa has been around almost as long as me. :D I used it back in the 60's in Detroit's in boats and then it disappeared. Found out later that it had been renamed Delo 100. Now it's back to Ursa again! :o
When will the oil companies stop playing with the voices in my head? Egads! They're confused enough already and now Global Warming? ???

Oh don't worry about global warming, Sheryl Crow has the solution to it. ::)

Sheryl Crow's toilet paper idea:
"Now, I don't want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required." -

Just went to www.chevron.com and Delo 100 is definitely listed in 30,40,50 straight weights and they mention the oil to be used in any 2 stroke Detroit engine including the big 149 series. I think a better way for your oil distributor to be saying it, is they (the oil distributor) is not carrying the Delo 100 anymore. Chevron would be foolish to stop making the Delo 100 since there are 10's of thousands of 2 stroke Detroits still in commercial use, let alone our spector of use in our bus conversions. Good Luck, TomC
I use Phillips super duty 40

Hi this from hq delo 100 will be sold in 55 gal drums only,
Is that info from Chevron's hq or a distributor?
chevron in la
O'Reilly's Auto parts stores now carry Chevron Delo 100 40wt. To find it near you go to the O'Reilly website here (http://www.oreillyauto.com/EW3/). In the Product Search box on the left side of the page enter the item number "100-40-1". It will prompt you for your zipcode, enter it and then it will show the nearest O'Reilly's store that has it in stock.
I also got an email back from Chevron indicating that they are not discontinuing it and they provided a link to a Chevron website page for locating a distributor (probably not that useful for most of us, but I will post it for those who might have use for it):

Rotella is twice the oil delo ever was. I don't care if Standard Oil want my business or not. I don't like their product.
Great Link HighTechRedneck, it worked for me. I was surprised to find it in Abilene TX.
Thanks,
Paul

went into Crappytire [Canada] the other day and saw 40 wt CF-2 on the shelf in 20 liter pails
Afternoon All,
What is the main problem with using detergent oils in a 2-stroke? The trucker that I bought the bus from said to avoid it like the plague.
My last oil change I used 30W Esso. Non-detergent.
Thanks for the info in advance.

There is NO harm in using detergent oils in a two-stroke. The harm comes from using multi-weight oil (like 10-30, 15-30, etc.).
Here's the factory's own publication regarding oil requirements in the their engines:
http://www.detroitdiesel.com/support/on-highway/manuals/Lubricants_Fuels_Coolants/7se270.pdf
Also, if you do a search under "oil" and using Russ as the author, you'll find a post I shared a little while ago with an explanation about multi-weight oil.
Do the research, lots of "old wives tales" out there.
Personally, I prefer not to second-guess the factory on this one.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
There is a good article about it here (http://www.tejascoach.com/ddcoil.html).
The high wear of multi grades is one issue, sulfated ash content is the other. Detroit Diesel specifies that the oil have no more that 1% ash content. Delo 100 has the lowest at 0.76%. Exxon XD-3 is at 0.80% and Shell Rotella 40T comes in right at the mark at 1%. Delo 400 is way out of spec. at 1.35%.
Thanks much Russ and HTR,
Another couple of additions to the technical library.

Using non detergent oils in two strokers is very old thinking. This comes from when the gaskets and seals were of poor quality and Detroits leaked like a sieve. The non detergent oil would allow dirt to build up and act like a sealant. Whereas detergent oil would keep the engine clean on the inside, hence you would know about any kind of oil leak. I would always use detergent oil-specifically Chevron Delo 100 sae40 weight since that is the oil that Detroit designed the engine around. Good Luck, TomC
