Typical is R-N-D-3-2-1 for an Allison HT740 4 speed.  The shift is 1st converter, 2nd converter, 2nd lockup, 3rd lockup, 4th lockup.  All start in 1st and whatever gear you select will be the ultimate top gear.  WARNING-if you overspeed in say 2nd gear, it will upshift to 3rd, even 4th to save the engine.  Good Luck, TomC
