Post by: redbusnut on April 09, 2007, 05:14:42 PM
I have some elec. problems with my new bus.On the way home could not turn off interior lights. Finally went dead and have not been able to turn on sinse. It is plugged to shore power now an when I un hook light goes out on inverter. My house has 4 batteries and and they are hooked for 24 volt and 12 is that normal. Emailed Liberty with no answer. Redbusnut

Hi Red,

What kind of switches are operating the lights?

I had digital 12v dimmer switches that I had a simular problem with.

Hi Nick,
I can't find any dimmer switchs,A bus nut stopped by and said he thinks Transfer switch.
I am wondering about house batteries.Metters in bus are reading power on line 1 and 2,but nothing on house guage. Leon

Hi Red,

Transfer switch makes sence....

Is it a stand alone? or built into your inverter?

If stand alone, Camping world stocks 50a transfer's.

Good Luck

Have you considered isolating the house batteries and charging them with a portable charger?  Just get'em back up and see where your load problem may be.
Does your inverter charge the batteries?  Sounds like it's getting powered up when shore power is plugged in.  Do you have a fuse in the house batts? Maybe between the inverter and batteries?
Sounds like you have a couple of problems.  Or, there are functions or controls that you are not familiar with.   I've looked at some factory conversions and could not believe how scattered and unplanned various controls seemed to be.  No logical layout.
Do you have an owners manual?   That's always a "last resort"!  ;)
Pull the fuse that controls the interior house lighting and see if that solves the problem..or isolates the problem.
Have you determined that the house batteries are down?  Checking them with a voltmeter will give you some ideas.
A transfer switch may be your problem, but don't see how that's connected to interior lighting, or dead batteries???  Sometimes I cannot see the obvious  ???
Post more info.
Cheers, JR

I think the lights that are not coming on are 12 volt. I look at wiring and it is a night mare. the fellow I bought it from says bring it on down and he will fix. He is in Oregon and Iam in Vancouver Can. I would
like to check a little myself and try and learn about coach for future problems. He gave me the name of
two people in Eugene to call that know the coach. I just don't want to bug them until I have tried a little
myself. What I am wondering is the coach is all elec. and the inverter is a RV3012.Why would the house batteries be on 24 volt and 2 on 12volt.leon

Another thing I don't understand is why the motor alt. did not keep batteries charged on way home.
I look at battery bank in inverter book and theyare hooked up like they were 6 volt, but checked with volt metter and are reading 13.5 each. The bus batteries are fully charged , so know bus alt. working. The bus nut that stopped by thinks house batteries are installed wrong. There is 400 amp fuse right by inverter and checked that. One more thing,I checked battery input to inverter and not getting know reading.
With shore power I get about 4 volt reading, but think that is charger out put. Leon

Hi Leon,

Do you have a disconnect between the batt bank and the inverter?

I had a 400amp disconnect go bad in my coach last year and it bled crazy voltages through it.

Just a thought....
