Title: Fans for radiator
Post by: richardkillmon on April 14, 2026, 10:43:54 AM
My squirrel fans are leaking oil.
What is the most common failure point?
I would like to order the gaskets or parts before I tear apart.
Ant suggestions before I start removing?

Yep it isn't that bad but heavy lifting and time consuming. I put a table on the ground behind the bus and a 2 x 10 plank from the blower floor to the table. take out the two bolts in front and two behind and unscrew the blower exits where the air comes out and it will lift up and then work it all in one piece down the plank and start disassembly.

The bolts in the middle where the cages are attached to the shafts. Then the top on the box and drain the oil out. and the rest is simple. make sure you have a supplier for the rubber cones if they are damaged at all, it is a good time to replace those too. Good luck.

Dave,

So I have to remove the cage over the fans to disconnect the shafts?
Or can I leave the guards over the fans and disconnect the shafts and slide out pump?
Any other suggestions I should I do since I'm in there?

Can anyone give me some instructions on how to fix the leaks?
Is there anything else I should do while working on this?

yes the three seals are at the three sides of the box where the shafts go in to it and the front one where the pulley is. You can take the nut off on the pulley with an impact.. The rubber cones are the the ones that keep air from going around the fans etc on each side. Mine had chunks missing when I took it out and got new ones from Luke in NJ but people have been says lately that he doesn't have them anymore. So if they look ok you might be able to not replace those. Some people use liquid rubber to fix cracks etc if needed.

Dave,

I never seen the cones. Do I have to remove the covers on the squirrel to do the seals?
Or just disconnect the shafts?

They are the two ends black things that are near the rads on both sides.

I don't have a photo but they are tapered for a smooth air flow so the air flow has no restrictions  they are needed

They are between the rad and the cage. there is a space there. Look in that side of each and they are right there surrounding the end of the fans. They are black plasticy rubber. It all has to come out in one piece. the Gear box with the shafts and the fans attached. The cages on top can be removed off before you take out the rest. The books have it all maybe you should get the book or go one line to see if they are there.

Dave,

You say "books" which ones?
I have MCI service and parts books but none have details/pictures of radiator, exhaust, etc.
Where can I get one that shows the entire fan system and exhaust etc.

Thank you
