Title: releasing the tension on 50 amp generator

another way to ask. How do I release the tension so I can change the belts.

The belts come off when the air tensor cylinder has no air there is an adjustment on the air cylinder you turn to get the extra needed to remove the belts, then you need to readjust the air cylinder for the correct tension on the new belts

Thanks, I have the valve off, it was leaking when we turned the shut off valve. There is no air in the cylinder. Can not get it to move. Have tried prying on it but cannot get it to move.

Turns out the air cylinder was frozen. I removed it and installed a turn buckle. Tere wasn't much left of the old belts, don't understand how they were still holding together
