Title: Who is using Starlink?
Post by: Gary Hatt - Publisher BCM on December 31, 2025, 03:51:11 PM
I received my Starlink over a year ago.  I work full-time from my bus, and Starlink is a great asset for those who want to or have to be connected to the Internet.  Or for those who absolutely, positively, need to be reachable by phone.  As long as you have a clear view of the sky, you will be able to get connected.

I bought the 150-foot cable to use, if necessary, to reach out from under the trees if my bus is parked in the forest or a campground with tall trees.

I have also used it in Mexico, and it works as well as in the US.

It is rather expensive at $165 per month for the roaming plan with unlimited downloads, but it is much faster than my Verizon hotspot, so it is worth it to me. I cancelled my $65/month Dish Satellite TV to help justify the cost.  I miss being able to record the news every day, but with Amazon and Paramount, I can turn on the TV and see the latest news wherever I am.

Do you have Starlink, and if so, which model do you have, and how do you like it?

If you do not have it, what is your reasoning for not getting it?  Some people just don't need to be connected all the time like I do to respond to BCM inquiries as quickly as possible.

What are your thoughts?

IMO it's the best thing ever for those of us who can't or don't want to be out of pocket for too long while RV'ing.  I use a Starlink at my house and I have the mini for my bus, and both are awesome.
It's a no brainer compared to over-the-road satellites and hotspots, IMO.

I am not full time, but I do turn it on when traveling and pay the $10.00 standby rate.

In the meantime there are now 5G stationary alternatives for around $39..00 a month. I am using fiber at home in it's lowest tier at $20.00 a month.

All the years dealing with carriers using a hot spot on my Cell phone if I was traveling again, I would have Starlink,Sonja watching her Hallmark movies would burn a lot of data on a hot spot . I have real good service with a carrier now (2 years ), high speed with cell service and unlimited data because of my age (antique)I only pay $35.00 a month and they give me the phone or I would probably have Starlink at home. I was with Frontier for 20 years lousy service and they kept increasing the price every month last bill was $145.00 for internet service alone. Verizon owns Frontier now they are offering me a good deal but it's only temporary reading the fine print

We have starlink and like it. I don't know what model it is but have it for about 3 years. Took it to Alaska and worked fine. We only use it when traveling. My plan let's me but it on standby for 5 bucks a month. I got in a pissing match with dish and that's when I switched to starlknk and glad I did.

Been a Starling user for 4 years, get the full subscription for several months while beach camping in Mexico. Summers in the Sierra Nevada no need as unlimited hotspot on cell works fine @$30/mo, rest of year now on $5/mo standby.
