Title: MC-9- 6v92T - water pump
Post by: Brian R. on November 08, 2025, 05:43:22 PM
Hi All,---wondering if anyone has a decent source for a quality Reman water pump for this engine, and a good part number. My MC-9 parts book lists # 5146529 but I can't get anything to come up on internet with that number. This is a "standing" model (both legs straight down).  It is not weeping. As a preventative measure I just want to change it, and the thermostats, as I have no idea how long they have been in operation. Recently some grades that were fine before have become noticeably warmer. Radiators were gone thru before.
I'm thinking perhaps a thermo is sticking part way or deterioration of the pump performance for one reason or another. I know there are a host of other possibilities but it is not losing coolant. I'll probably take the front cover off to check if all the fins are intact. I could get a rebuild kit but I don't think I would mind getting a Reman unit (depending on the price...?)  as I have a dial indicator to set the lash. Thanks in advance for any info.   Brian R.

Rebuild it kits are under $300.00 and a  good rebuilt pump will be a $1000.00 plus DD will want 2 grand and they have 2 different models the early models have bolts for the front cover plate and the newer style has snap ring for the cover, removing the pump there is 1 bolt that is tough to get to,you need a curved wrench for it
