Hello Friends,
I've got a 6-71N. I haven't driven it in a couple of years. I start it once a month and make sure it still moves and the brakes still work.
The last couple of times when I fired it up and raised the RPM's to activate the alternator it smoked white smoke, which is normal when it's cold, but it stopped smoking for a second then smoked for a couple of seconds and then stopped smoking for a second. It did that a couple of times then stopped. The engine ran smooth while this was happening. Then when I would raise the RPM's it wouldn't do it again, there was just white smoke.
Anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Hope you all are happy and healthy
Jerry
Starting it once a month is doing more harm than good,,,You are inducing moisture into the oil and to burn that moisture out you need to run it under a good load long enough to get everything up tp normal operating temps..>>>Dan
When you get it on the road and run it under a load the smoke will probably clear up and your engine will be happier. They like to work hard.
Thanks for your comments, The smoke always clears up when it warms up. I never smokes except when I have my foot too far into it going up a hill.
I'll try to get it a little hotter before I shut it down.
I was just wondering what the puffing was all about.

Getting it hotter, aka up to operating temperature isn't a substitute for getting on the on highway under a load. It's the only environment that will clean out the air boxes. Your engine is fine it just needs to go for a run more.
Your bus is just indicating that a new pope has been chosen. If it smokes black, there isn't a two-thirds majority yet to name a new pope. Maybe you should name your bus "Crownclave"?
