So... I have ended up with a 2003 D4500 to convert. I Bought this bus on a auction site for a very modest price and drove it home. Much to my dismay it was not advertised truthfully and had a few issues. nothing major but i had to drive it home about 240 miles with a egr fault and low power and horrible fuel millage. I did get it fixed for pennies as it was a broken wire in the harness off the ecm. Luckily i know my way around heavy trucks and machines very well. So the other issue i found out is the mileage was advertised at around 60000 miles yes that right 60000. i figured this was a typo and bid accordingly.
After i got it home and started going through the system and starting the gut job. I plugged in my laptop to try to get the egr sorted, i fired up DDDL and read the engine trip data and much to my surprise the engine hours were just a touch above 1700 and miles right about 30100.. what?? odometer says 60k ecm at 30k what the heck is going on here i thought. Well I happened to see a sticker for National Bus Sales in Oklahoma, Call them up and they got me to somebody in sales. After giving him my vin he explained that all there data on my bus is gone because they changed systems about 3 or 4 years ago. But he did ask me a few question About the interior and after i answered he explaind that my bus was imported in 2017 with a group of others from Canada. He could not get me any info on my particular unit but ensured me they were fleet maintained and all had 500k to 600k on them. they updated them to US speedo. not sure if they were zeroed or not. I didnt get much more info from him than that.
With the Discrepancy between the ecm and speedo though im leaning to a used speedo from a 30k wrecked bus and a reprogrammed ECM that did not have the mileage and hours transferred or recorded. thus the 30k discrepancy in miles and very low hours.
So i guess I ended up with bus that has somewhere between 530000 and 660000 miles on it. Realistically im think ill call it 630000, Also national bus sales still has one of these busses for sale on their website, its a 2004 but the picks of it on the inside are identical to mine except mine had black plastic trim on the lower luggage racks that one has yellow i think.
Does anyone else have one of these busses or know anything else about where they came from in Canada?
would love to track down the fleet that operated them to see what maintenance has been done, like possibly a in frame.
