Title: Hurricane Milton
Post by: epretot on October 12, 2024, 06:42:54 PM
My wife and I are helping with cleanup in Tampa, FL

Thankful for the generator and solar this week. We aren't expected to have power until Thursday.

I smoked a pork shoulder for the surrounding neighbors. It's nice to see people out and about helping each other.

A great outlook after a double punch. Hope your power gets restored sooner than later. We live in the Ocala NF. No surge or flooding but the wind plays havoc on the trees. We recently got power back after backfeeding the main panel from the bus genny.

We live in Tampa, being in an A Evacuation Zone we evacuated to the shop that is on higher ground, we did not get any flooding, at the peak of the Storm we were in the building otherwise we were in the Bus.

Quite happy with the way the solar system performed, it allowed us to watch all the hype on the Weather Channel the entire time and make coffee the next morning.

Our power was only out for about 24 hours.

We survived surprisingly good, considering we have 5 large, live oaks on our ¼ acre lot.

A few downed branches, fortunately none of them hit any houses, one of them crossing over into two other yards.

One of them fell neatly onto our sheds and my old pickup truck, not destroying anything.

These branches could be considered trees in their own right.

A few days with a chain saw and quite a bit of work, we are making progress.

There is one large branch still hanging up in the tree that could be very dangerous that I will need to get a tree service to take down, I also need to have that tree assessed, it is the largest tree in the neighborhood, quite a few branches down with jagged breaks, not sure if it will survive.

My daughter and her family are in Lakewood Ranch, outside Bradenton/Sarasota.

The eye of Milton went right over their house!

They lost power for about 18 hours, but S-I-L had the foresight when they bought their home to have a backup generator installed, along with a manual transfer switch. So they were the only people on their block with power until the main grid came back online.

No damage to their home. Neighbor's white plastic fence lost a bunch of small panels, some neighbor houses lost some shingles, and a few city-owned street signs blew over, but other than that, very little major damage.

Thankfully!

Glad to hear. I had never experienced such wide spread damage. Very eye opening being here.

We spent the last week putting a house back together that had been flooded from the hurricane.

Some friends from Ohio came to help. Here are some pics.

Our purpose in building the bus was to be able to go anywhere to help people in need.

Wow, simply wow. I can only imagine how much that devastation there was
