When I am using the google Crome browser I am unable to see the full content of a post or create a new topic.
I had to use Microsoft Edge to post this which I very rarely use!!!!
Something's definitely changed, the display is looking different on my laptop, too.
Yep, same here. Something weird is going on with the page and the adds covering text.
Something changed I get a ad all the way across the top and need to scroll down under the ads to pick up the board now on my lap top using Edge
Ad's = money. Forum secondary be happy. Happy 4th.
Yes, the site looks a little different and seems to be zoomed, but good enough for this forum sunce I dont live here all the time wanting to see the latest post about alternative fuels.
"Wadda ya want fer nuffin, a rubber biscuit? Bow bow bow!" ;D
I use the Brave browser. Eliminates all of the pop up ads
We are working on the problem. The software has changed and we are trying to figure out how to make it work on all browsers. Please be patient.
And yes, we need ads on there to help pay for my new Marathon coach that is on order. ;D
:^
2023 Marathon coach = 50 shades of gray
They must have figured it out now I go straight to the board without scrolling down the ads
Well, we try to do the best we can. It is sometimes like walking a tightrope where we can bring in some cash from advertising and trying to keep our readers from complaining all the time. For some reason, bus conversion owners like to complain a lot. ;D
Bottom line, I need some way to pay for the BCM Super Yacht and Helicopter.

Gary... that picture is super funny. I am literally LMAO! I wonder how many people looked close enough to see BCM on it (?)

Yeah, probably only you. My Editor Jorge, is a very good graphics artist. :D
Oh, we saw it...
Wish I could afford one of those... well, maybe not.

We met one on one of our Alaska trips. About a 70 foot boat with a helicopter on the aft deck. Depending on your insurer there's a size cutoff there where you'll need a professional crew = $$$ and obviously someone needs to be able to drive the motorized rock. I expect when you reach that point you're either using someone else's money and therefore don't care or you simply don't care about the fuel cost. Either way I'll never know.

Maybe on a different note this morning I woke up in beautiful homer Alaska and used my phone to catch up with t n e rest of the world and also the bus world. When I went to this site and opened a thread all the lines are bigger than the screen and I have to turn my phone sideways to read it. I can do that but why do I have to. I did not ask anyone to change it I don't want it changed and I am very happy with the way things were. Also this thing does some crazy things when it updates. I don't know all the inns and outs of the phone and have to spend time trying to figure out how to get it back. To me that is time wasted. Looks like I have to waste more time and learn about cookies brownies and cakes or what ever else there is in these phones to stay up with the times. But at my age I have to decide what to spend my time on.

OS I know that updates are on the phone side and not the forum

Rusty, we did not design the Forum to be smartphone friendly and without putting a lot of money and effort into redesigning the Forum, I am not sure how to solve that problem. I suggest when you want to read the Forum, you use a computer as that is what the SMF software was designed for. Eventually, a new software update may be smartphone friendly, but that is our of our control.
Thank you Gary. What I can't get my head around is I have been on this Forum for a very long time and now all of a sudden it changes. Is the the phone or the forum? I read other forums ( not as good as yours) and they did not change. I understand why you run the forum the way you do and have no problem with that thank you for keeping it going. I will turn my phone sideways and enjoy the ride.
Wayne
We update the Forum occasionally as new software is released. I will tag Krash as he is the expert on this, as this stuff is too complex for me and I like to concentrate on the magazine, but maybe he has some insight on this issue.
We try to continuously improve the system, but sometimes we take one step forward and two steps backward and I seldom have problems seeing the forum and reading the posts but others sometimes do.
I also don't have time to read all of the threads like some of you do, as like I said, I spend most of my time on the magazine and the Forum is a bit like a thorn in my side sometimes. But if no one sends a note to the Moderator which I read every one, we frequently don't know there are problems with it.
Nothing should have changed on the forum, but we're once again logging code errors. Last cleaned it up just over a month ago. Only thing different since then is Jorge added the BCM header with scrolling ad banners for a few days, then took it off. May have damaged one or more of the files. I'll have to upload clean files and reinstall mods (again), see if that fixes things.
The other option is to upgrade to current SMF version 2.1.4, which I discussed with Gary previously. There's a demo running here (https://www.busconversionmagazine.com/forum21/), but that appears to be broken as well. Will have to fix it.
This forum has been plagued by gremlins since I first got involved, and problems continue at new host. Running a forum in a subdirectory of a Wordpress install is not recommended, but I don't see how that's causing these glitches.
I'll monitor this topic, please use it to report any further issues with the forum.
Wayne no offense but why are you on your phone at all if you are in Beautiful Alaska? LOL :^

Good point Dave.

I am not sure what changed or why it changed. Maybe Krash has an idea on this as I know of no recent changes?
Bottom Line: If BCM ever becomes profitable, we will gladly remove all ads from the Forum as I hate the popups as much as anyone. The problem is, less than 5% of Forum readers are subscribers of the magazine which helps pay for the Forum. If more users of the Forum would become Subscribers/Members, we would only need the side ads. But the Forum ads income helps support the Forum and also the Magazine that we struggle to publish every month.
Why not move it to private Facebook page?

I will do that if you want. We will lose 419,366 current posts and all of the millions of replys and over 20 years of history. We will take a vote now. How many people want to shut down the Forum as Chessie suggested and start over with a new Facebook page? If the majority of people want to do that, reply Yes, those oppose No.
I can do this as early as this weekend if everyone is interested.
Never be on Facebook and will not start now
Wayne
No to Fakebook, Phoneybook, or whatever appropriate name you can think of.
That was a suggestion, not a request. Most people here from beginning dont trust Facebook.Yeah, they have there downside, just like Google and other browsers. There is a lot of, a mountian of, subject on it. Anything under the sun. I'm on both and wouldn't not have it otherwise You can view a lot of groups and subject forums without belonging to them. Yes you register to be on FB though. I view Utube when it is a benefit, but only occasionally. Mainly directions on repairing something I'm unfamiliar with.
Never been on Facebook and will not start now either No X formally known as Tweety bird. none of it. :^

We agree Wayne. Hyder is awesome BTDT.
Our mention of the mobile was the tool that enabled us to buy the parcel in Tok AK thus why we keep returning.
There's no signal in most all the good places anyway! :^

I understand what Chessie is saying. I could never imagine this forum on Fakebook but we do enjoy chat rooms of our personal interest like the 4104 and vintage diesel mechanics, etc. In the winter time in Tok AK Fakebook can be a life line - I've never used it as such but to see how a fringe community holds together in severe conditions is admirable. You tube is better than the Encyclopedias of yesteryear. Yeah the ads are sometimes a PITA but the forum's valuable assetts override them IMHO. The main difference I see with this forum is the magazine and I'm not a subscriber so let the ads begin... :^
I and new here but my vote is a NO
It's simple. Gary is right about this format being the only way.
And the ads are annoying.
This site is valuable enough to me to come up with a solution. If your bus was broken down on the side of the highway, Everyone would be chipping in with a solution.
So, what's the solution?
Gary made clear (by my understanding) the magazine pays for the site. My value is in the forum.
Some other content creators (I hate that term) have paid content. Perhaps Patreon members can get ad free access...
Lots of times when an ad pops up if you hit the back button and open the page you were going for again it will immediately reopen without the ad block. Just a way I adopted to get around an ad that may help someone else.
If the magazine is paying for the site, we're in big trouble. Print is dying, along with Bus Conversion enthusiasts. Many on bus conversions on FB page, bought a bus to convert, are selling right and left. Not allowed to park at residence, fuel prices, conversion costs, loss of interest, over their head, insurance, license, etc. Getting worse as economy heads downhill. Some nice shells for sale, and a lot of older conversions. Just see what the average age of members here. And majority are western US inhabitants. Other than Prevosts and s&s, rare to see a conversion out on the roads past few years.
It isn't any wonder why FMCA started allowing campers and travel trailers join.
You never fix anything that works Gary lol I would be in F/B jail all the time, there are some genuine jerks on F/B here we agree to disagree and spammers are on every page on F/B.My page has 6000 and it takes 4 of us to keep the spammers off and civil
PLEASE don't put this on FB.
JIm
I'm contused but that is not an anomaly. I joined BCM when I got my bus 3 years ago. It has helped me greatly especially in my early days. When Logged on, and I paid for 3 years, I got the magazine, the forum, and all the other goodies. I did not know you can just be on the forum???
I'll keep paying for both. I enjoy the magazine once a month. There is so little out there for us. My un favorite thing is lately on whatever platform I am using ( ask Rita) when I spool up, the bottom half of the page gets covered up with add. Slowly comes up from the bottom. I can click on the left corner of it and it slowly goes back down. But about every 3 to 4 minutes it pops back up again. I am now good at clicking the "go away" feature, and if it keeps gas in Gary's chopper, I'm good with it.
DT Cerrato and I missed you at Nappanee Jim. Hope you can make it next year.
I'm not on Fakebook and won't go there. Even to chase this forum. Don't do it.
Uh oh! It's already there!
My cell started that same add covering screen like yours. Doesnt do it on tablet. It has a full page add that you have to hit x and it goes away. Many don't like Facebook, probably some are trying to hide from irs,lol but we don't see these ad problems on the bus conversion site.
Wonder how many here still have land line phones, and cable or satellite dishes?
Ted and Dan, sorry I missed you guys but I just wasn't quite up to the trip yet. Going to be trying a long-ish drive this afternoon and I'll see how that goes, the good news is that I'm walking upright now and no longer doing the old-man-shuffle. Legs are still a little weak but they'll get stronger. Don't buy into that 2 week recovery BS, major surgery is still the same thing as major injury when it comes to recovery. You don't simply walk away from being stabbed in the belly 4 times by a giant robot spider. (to say nothing of the internal abuse)
But it's all good, my PSA is now less than zero. And even better, I'm getting close to finishing up my plumbing in the bus. New revised timeline has me maybe putting tags on it in the spring.
