Title: Help with throttle position sensor
Post by: rusty on April 11, 2023, 02:33:47 PM
When I built my 15 I but  series 60 with DFEC V. When I wired  the TPS I used 3 wires 5 volt, ground, and throttle position. I used a bendix throttle. I had my diagnostic hook up and discovered the ECM was throwing a code saying no idle validation switch. Everything ran fine but I didn't want the code going off. So I got  a throttle pedal from a
freightliner with a 60 series. It required 5 wires 2 more for the idle validation switch built-in the TPS. I ran a wire to the ECM and found a sensor return the make that function work. Everything worked fine. Now me being anal I wanted a spare TPS and that is when things became very strange
The number on the TPS is a williams control # 131856. When I ask for that number it comes back with number 131973 that is a kit with # 133284 and 4 screws.  When I plug that TPS in it does not work. My diagnostic  program says no engine data and the throttle has no response
I have looked and looked and every TPS I have tried dies not work. Does anyone have any ideas and does anyone know of a source for #131856.
Thank you Wayne

MPParts.com shows that number.

Thank you Bill. If you read about that sensor at MPParts it is the kit 131973 that contains sensor 133284 that is what I have that doesn't work. It also calls out for cummins. Does anyone know what protocol cummins uses? I know detriot use 5 volt the ECM sees voltage of approximately less  than 1 to just over 4 to set fuel rate. Am I not seeing something.

Quarry magazine shows one at $440. Damn pricey.
Try WWWilliams as they are good at finding things. They got stuff for my ATEC that nobody  could come up with.

Progress sucks they changed to 1 TPS with kits to adapt to different engines the 131856 hasn't been around in while except for aftermarket,I have the 131973 with the Cummins kit,Monoco RV on the Spartan chassis with the IH engine used the 131856 ,A Monoco dealership may have one

Your pin numbers may be different but the 3 wires on my ISX Cummins TPS are

+5 volts at pin 29
return ground at pin 19
Signal is pin 30

Then cummins and detroit use the same protocol.  Maybe they come off the TPS a different pin arrangement. And that is making a little more sense as some of the kits come with  a wiring harness and they might rearrange the wires to work on a detroit
The TPS is a 6 pin connector does any one have a wiring diagram showing such as A = 5 volts B = throttle position C = sensor return for a cummins D,E ,and F have to do with idle validation

Does anyone have a schematic of the throttle position sensor connector showing the 6 pin arrangement for a cummins. I have found some digrams on the web and everything there is gospel not. I would feel better if some one here can answer this. Pins A B and C should be  the throttle and D E and F should be idle validation switch. I am starting to think the order for a cummins and detroit are different and by changing those 3 wires I can make a cummins sensor work on a detroit.
