Title: Caterpillar Repair
Post by: TomC on January 25, 2023, 10:20:09 AM
I realize not many have Caterpillar engines. I had my 3406B worked on at Western States Caterpillar in Meridian, Idaho (just west of Boise right off I-84). Resealed the injection pump-man complicated, replaced air compressor, O ring on turbo oil feed line, resealed HT740 throttle modulator after I tried 3 times. Each action was thoroughly explained in the final right up. Even though it was $4,300, I couldn't have done those jobs myself. Highly recommend if you have a Caterpillar engine. Good Luck, TomC

Tom,
You think they paint cats yellow but that is really gold.  At least they think it is.

I wince at what the Prevost guys pay for annual service, oil changes etc. Wonder what percentage of those owners write off the expenses to their businesses.

I bet most of Tom's bill was on the injection system, it probably has not been touched in 30 + years ,that is why he is not complaing about his bill takes a lot of time to remove the pump and reseal it.Cat's hourly rate is like everyone else now,the friggn Lexus dealer ships are $180.00 hour now no telling what M/B is charging. John ask one of the owners how much it cost to replace a Headhunter water pump on most Prevost Conversions lol you don't buy for a $100 bucks lol the are closer to $2000.00
