Ok, so I have my new adapter to connect a diagnostic tool to the bus ('02 MCI) under the front dash. It adapts from a rectangular plug (at the tool) to round connections on the bus (there are 2 round connectors under the dash next to each other). Do I connect both of the round adapters, or only one of them? After messing up things by removing the wheelchair stuff, I am overly paranoid about screwing things up! I don't have a diagnostic tool yet, but from what I understand, almost any tool will perform the basic function of reading codes (I hope I haven't convoluted this subject!).
You only connect to one. You say round one so one will have 6 pins and likely the.other 9 pins. It depends on what cable the diagnostic reader comes with. I use a Prolink 9000 with a 12 pin rectangular plug but have the adapters for the 6 and 9 pin round ones. You will need a reader that is specifically for a Detroit diesel engine
Thanks Bill. I've been away from my computer for a couple of days. I'll see if I can find a Prolink 9000. A friend of mine said that any diagnostic tool will work and suggested renting one from a local auto parts dealer until I can pick one up. That just doesn't sound right to me!

Any will work if you have the DD software.I use a OBD on the DDEC l and translate the SAE codes.to DD codes.,they make a translator but are hard to find now.
So, the Prolink 9000 is for the 2002 MCI Series 60? Thanks everyone.

ProLinks work on any electronic engine gasoline or diesel with the right cartridge.and cable adapters. the 9000 plus is a better reader, it will be learning curve if you don't have the manuals a lot of head scratching. The Prolinks will read the engine and transmission it is not going to help reading the chassis computers on the J that is another can of worms you have extra ports under the dash to read those,The J is a nice bus but loaded like my CC with electronics, it is a treat to get into the multi plex wiring without the software :P
I have the D4500 with the multiplex system.
