Post by: sandra@BCM on December 22, 2022, 10:16:45 AM
I was curious as to how many of you Bus Nuts have winter travel plans.

Where are you going?

Florida twice.
But tonight 50 MPH winds, snow starting at 3 am, and 6 degrees in the morning....
Outside long enough for the dogs to do what they do.

Taos for a couple of weeks to ski and snowmobile if they get some snow.  Not much there right now.  They have a great RV park in town that is open in the winter.

I plan to repeatedly travel between the house and the maintenance garage to work on trucks and buses due to all the things that need to be done. I even hope to be able to start prepping my 45' Model 15 for painting next year. All I need is a whip and a whipper to get me out there. The current cold front coming in is cooling my desire to get out there, it's 50' door to door.

Planning on my third year at Quartszite and attending bus rallies.

But I am also a SciFi nerd/space nut so left as soon as I could to travel from Seattle to Brownsville TX to hopefully see the first experimental SpaceX super heavy/starship launch with is the current equivalent of the first Saturn five moon rocket.

So waiting for them to light that candle!!!

After being here a couple of months I am very much remembering why as a young teenager army GI why I hated the weather in Texas and heck it's not August!!!

Merry Christmas to all! We weren't sure we'd make it to this years Christmas camp out but Santa's gift of a quad bipass just after last Christmas, a TURP in August and a flareup of a past broken wrist (done at work chasing a perp many years ago and now in a semi permanent cast) had us wondering. What the heck, we leave for the camp ground any minute now! Oh Boy! The weather is unusually warm with 76 degrees/55 degrees predicted--I'll leave the tire chains at home this year. We'll be munching s'mores while you all are shoveling snow and freezing your arses off! Nothing nice about me. Ha! Jack

Jack enjoy your moderate winter weather. You'll have it over Floridians. Next two nights low 20s hard freeze warning - safe travels & happy holidays...

We are still in Wamego, Kansas -33 with windchill and 2 degrees F
We stay under the covers in 6 hour increments then get up turn the water kettle on break the cats water ice bowl and pour in some warm water for her. We heat up 6 rice bags in the Microwave and put them in the bottom of the bed. We stay up for a little while and read etc. The wife makes something to eat like biscuits and gravy or big sandwiches and heat them in the oven. We then leave the oven door open to help heat the isle, We have a big electric heater in the isle that is up to 77 but when you push the inside temp button it is only 34F. even though we were well insulated this windchill stuff is getting in anyway it can. The floor was never insulated because we never needed it and pretty tough to do.

The solar had been keeping up the batteries 8, 6 volt AGM's even with the snow and over cast it charged for maybe 2 hours and they were full but slowly when this weather came it took them down fast and now the gas furnace will not light. So we plugged in electric heaters because there is no way to go out side for any time and pull out the batteries and charge with charger. Second option is re connect the inverter but again don't want to be out in this weather. So will keep on keeping on as Dan C says and we will be warm and a little uncomfortable until the windchill breaks on Tuesday and the temps go up to 14 to 25 for a few days.
To top all this off we get a call from the wife's friend and nutritionist and find out that her Doctor friends husband just passed away and had to get dressed and run up to St Marys Kansas to help her out for about 4 hours. Buslife goes on.

We are in South Texas and the temp today will top out at 37 and 29 tonight.  By Wednesday it will be 80.  As Clifford said the weather in Texas will change.  Plan on staying here til spring.

Well, I see some of you are staying put. Some are staying in the cold.

Even more, are traveling or staying in warmer places.

My little Skoolie family of four will be spending our 4th winter in the Arizona desert. We are now in Quartzsite. If you see us out and about, please stop us and say HI. WE LOVE MEETING BUS NUTS!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

See you on the road.

-8 here this morning with a -22 wind chill. My travel plans were to motor from the bed to the coffee pot to my office recliner. somehow that ended up including Hobby Lobby as Edith wanted a stocking stuffer. What even IS a stocking stuffer? I couldn't find a foot there, had to get her some old mug and a warm hat instead. Then couldn't make it up the driveway so my revised travel plans meant a walk out in the cold. Now I'm giving considering glances at the bottle of Woodford Reserve Rye. And that's about it for me today.

Nope Dan we leave the refrigerator open to warm the bus.....

Clifford no ice and Electric is still good. But thanks for the heads up.
A little snow but not much just that darn windchill.

Van good talking to you's guys and thanks for the idea to fool the inverter will try that to get it charging again.

Our water finally came on and got to fix a pipe behind the toilet that burst and of course you couldn't get to it so I had a real 3 hour job to replace the pipe fitting and clean up all the water.
