Title: Fantastic Fan or Maxxfan?
Post by: Gary Hatt - Publisher BCM on December 01, 2022, 09:12:59 AM
I have a Fantastic Fan in my living room and a Maxxfan in my bathroom.  I like some features of each one.

If you were building a new bus, which would you use?

Based on some of the feedback I received on this board, I decided to go with the Maxxair fan in the bathroom that will serve as the only fan I will have. The feedback I received was not so much the brand of fan, but on the location and number of fans. If I have to later, I will add another fan in the kitchen/living area, but it will probably be another Maxxair fan. However, before I install it, I'll have to figure out some changes to my roof rack system, due to the 8" I will need toward the rear of the fan, but that's all part of converting a bus!

Yes, that is one of the drawbacks of the Maxxfan.  They take up another 8" of real estate behind your fan on your roof.  I replaced a Fantastic Fan in my bathroom with a Maxxfan, and had to move one of my solar panels back to accommodate the overhanging cover.

The warranty on Fantastic Fans s not much now since Dometic owns it,I would still use Fantastic if I was converting though even paying for the replacement covers now that were free for years, they look better to me

I have 5 fantastic fans. All work great even the automatic close if rain is detected. Sit low on roof as well.

I installed and also have Fantastic fan. Both with rain covers. They dont overhang to the back. I like the quick release clips to pull rain cover quickly.

Doesn't Maxxfan make a fan that looks a Fantastic Fan or is that Maxxair ? .My Fantastic Fans are remote, or wall mounted controlled I use the wall switch mostly since I can never find the remote

Close copies of each other. You can purchase remotes only. See if they offer a wall holder. If your refer is magnetic( low grade stainless). Attacg a small piece of strip magnet to it with some ShoeGoo. If that doesn't work use velcro or a piece of sticky pad. Or attach a lanyard to it and wear it around your neck along with that tag with your neme on it. :)

I've had both, and the MaxFan Deluxe winds hands down for us. Aside from being quieter, the integrated rain hood means that we never come back to an overheated & humid interior because two drop of rain caused the Fantastic Fan to close.

When I got the 4108 I installed Fantastic Fans, and as soon as the first one started closing at the hint of rainy weather I searched for options. Never looked back after installing the MaxxFan Deluxe. Not in my Airstream I've got two of them. Use them all the time in the rain and never get a drop inside. Plus the inside shade keeps out the street lights when we are asphalt-docking.

I wonder how long it will be before Dometic starts making the Fantastic Fans in China, they have a way of screwing up a good American made product

Gary -

Maxxair Deluxe for me. Extremely quiet on low speeds, low profile rain shield when open compared to Fantastic's, reversible air flow, double supports for cover so it doesn't flop around if open while moving down the highway. IMHO, all around better construction than the Dometic offering, even if slightly higher priced. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to these roof fans.

FWIW & HTH. . . ;)

On our builds. I prefer the Fantastic fan. The only reason is that we put a cover on it that stays in place. The real reason for this is that all our builds tend to live in the Northeast where we get snow loads. It keeps the snow off the lids. I can say both are wonderful fans and great products. I just like to think of the customers that will not go on their roofs to clear the snow!  and if they tend to go where tree branches may whack the vent.  The covers are near $50 each and well worth the protection and allow year round ventilation for moisture and mold prevention.

Unless Fantastic has changed, one lifting arm. Maxxfan has 2. Had a Fantastic Cover break in strong wind on the Gulfcoast/Surfside Tx. , a few years back and went with the Maxx's. after.

If you read the instructions opening the cover wide open, they don't bend the arm took me awhile to read the instructions to figure that one out :^ I stayed with Fanatic because the owner supported his product free of charge, he was always at a FMCA rally and would replace anything going wrong for free including the covers he would send his crew to your rv and get it done. That is one thing I liked about Lifeline Batteries if you had one battery showing corrosion they would send a crew and replace all the Lifeline they did for me at FMCA in Redman Or at a FMCA rally so I still use Lifeline today
