Title: Places to buy later model mci buses?
Post by: Bubbiebus on August 21, 2022, 04:19:06 AM
Aside from fb, cl, and bus forums where else may be good places to find used mci buses.  I'm looking at 03-08 ish d4500s and j4500s.  I search companies online daily but am wondering if there is a bus company I am missing that is common knowledge to a busnut.

A reputable bus dealer is at https://busesonline.com/ (https://busesonline.com/)

The Michaud family has been in the industry for over 100 years.  Spike left the operating side and started Michaud bus sales, now run by his son Jim.  I worked for a competing New England operator early in my transit career, also bought my 4107 from Michaud, and can attest that they're class people.

While located in southern New Hampshire, they have tentacles all over the country, and may be able to find something in the south (your profile shows Louisiana).  I'd suggest giving Jim a call to see what he may know of, or perhaps request that he search.  Spike also does bus appraisals, so with a reputation to protect, they wouldn't steer you wrong.

Speaking of your location, many of us add information to our signature line (see mine below). That way, when you end up with a coach and have a question, one of us may be nearby.  Alternately, if your signature line shows you in Louisiana (including what part of the state), we wouldn't suggest a mechanic in Oregon.

Might look at auctions, Houston was selling off some buses awhile back.

Really anything from about the mid 90's up is a good bet as they generally have the 4 stroke, automatic, r134 and often the aux heater. The earlier ones have a simpler controls system which can be a big advantage.

ditto - auctions. these are one of the best places to find good condition, maintained, and recently run buses. Over the past couple years there have been some awesome deals on fleet turnovers, many with lots of life left in them and crazy prices. Bidders may come from other countries like Mexico, central and south america, so they don'ty sell for free but there are amzaing deals to be had. Ritchie Brothers, and the big canadian place are worth putting watch lists on
