Looks like tractor supply might not carry Shell Rotella 40 weight oil anymore so any suggestions on where to buy it. Amazon wants over $26 dollars a gallon.
walmart.
My local NAPA (Buckeye-Tolleson) had DELO 400 40wt on the floor this week.

Chevron specifically states in their lubrication spec sheets that Delo 400 is
NOT approved for use in the two-stroke Detroit diesels.

Ed -Maybe it's time to switch to Mobil Delvac 1240? Summit Racing often has it on sale, with free shipping on orders over $100.
FWIW. . .
We buy 5 gallon buckets of Chevron Delo 100 40wt for our 8v92T from West Marine online.
The two strokes are still used a lot in the marine world. I've found some larger marinas out of town that had the oil available as well.
Summit Racing will deliver to your door. Mobil Delvac 1240
According to MTU there are 250,000 2 strokes sill in service world wide, down from 2 million 2 years ago,I doubt the major oil refiners go out of the way to make the CF-2 much longer. You can by the Sinopec 40 w CF -2 from W/M for 72 bucks for a 5 gal bucket, it does meets the specs I had CAT do a test for me, it is made in China same as the Miles for sale on Amazon .I prefer Delvac 1240 myself how much longer it is going to be available is anyone's guess. They need to adjust the 84 year spec on oil for the 2 stroke since we have a different fuel spec now IMO.I use the Delo 400 with the high ash in generators to balance the TBN numbers with the heavy red diesel fuel with no problems
Wow just looked it up and Delvac 1240 on Summit racing was 5 gallons for $99.99 free shipping. $20.00 a gallon
On The Lubrication store it was 257.00 plus shipping. $52.00 a gallon? WTH.
Oil is cheap when it is out of stock Dave,Summit hasn't had 5 gal pails of Delvac 1240 in a year :^ you can get 1 gal jugs though for $21.00 a gal from Summit comes 4 gals to the carton not 3 gals like others
Appearantly the last time I posted the link for the D-1240 alot of you Mugs horded it (5gal pales) all up. It's still unavailable since last year. good luck!
:(
ps. cliff you and I posted the same time.
:^
The 92 series and 149 series engines with turbos in the mining ,construction and power generating industry uses Delvac 1640 when you can find it,and yes it is high in ash 1.4 for the real red diesel fuel not for the soy or corn crap fuel you buy now

That is pretty dramatic numbers. It seems many third world countries will keep running the old stuff until the wheels fall off. What global law could force so many 2 strokes out of service in so little time?
What was the definition of "2 stroke"? Did it include gas leaf blowers? lol

The US Miliary was the largest owner of Detroit 2 stroke engines they are all gone and been replaced with Teir 3 and 4 engines, I have no idea how many 2 stroke weed whackers the military owns
The military of the world - probably more than we realize... Imo
I bet MTU's definition of 'in service' only includes fleet vehicles, not privately owned ones like the vintage buses talked about here. Probably the same for 2-stroke marine engines privately owned/operated.

I'll take that bet sooner or later they will have to buy parts for the Detroit from Detroit when you give the serial number it all goes into the data base MTU knows where they are.Canada has more 2 strokes DD than the US. They been out of production for 23 years (92 series) the 71 series even longer, they were good engines in their days but it is all history now like it or not not many left from the 4 million produced in 60 years
A friend of mine bought a back hoe cheap. It had a cat. engine. Came time to change oil he called the cat dealer for a filter. They wanted the serial number which he gave. Several days later the state marshals showed up with a warrant for him and to take the tractor. I t was stolen.
The have all the serial numbers in their data base.

Had this happen years ago I put a TK unit on a trailer for a guy. Needed some parts for the unit. Called TK gave them the serial number to get the parts. Few months later Federal Marshals showed up at my place looking for the unit. Guy was out on the road with it. It was stolen. They took it back from the guy I had put it on for that had bought it. Any ag dealer I work with wants the serial number of the machine or your not getting parts.
