Title: skylights
Post by: DandM on June 13, 2022, 02:15:24 PM
heres another piece of my puzzle that needs an answer. my bus is a 1955 4501 GM scenicrusier. all of my skylights are either broken or leak like a waterfall. i'
m wanting to replace a couple of these old and broken skylights with new units that will not leak, that will be able to be opened and closed(think emergency exit), and be able to be opened just a slight amount for ventalation, anyone have s supplier in mind that can fill my need/requirments?

You may consider inquiring at the Bus Grease Monkey Forum as there are quite a few Scenicruiser owners there and lots of talk of glass replacement.

Although smaller in opening size, I believe, If you are starting from scratch, you could use ones from 4905's. They also make large ones for rv's. Our Brill had a 24x24" inch one. we mounted a large box fan in it. really moved air with a couple of windows open. We were poor back then. It didn't have AC.

Don't know the answer to your guestion but I have put it out there for an answer. A response  from an active scenic nut was: "Nobody is making the skylight glass right now? Common problem is roof leaks from the skylights. Some people have used plexiglass and made replacement, or just sheeted over the skylights with metal."

So, someone called us and asked us to reply on this topic.

There is two ways to go about this. As a restoration company. We know glass. I am going to point you to the guy who taught me and is the best option for custom work.

All Pro Glass in Hesperia, Ca  He is very well known in the custom car world. From Famous cars to non famous cars.  We have worked on them all.  He taught me everything I know about glass.  He is up in age but his son works with him and is fantastic.  Reach out to them.

They can take a original and make a copy. They will use a Poly product NOT plexi  as it will crack!

As for the Bus Grease Monkey  Yes, a hobbyist had some windows made overseas for the upper windshield. There was some issues getting them here thanks to the covid effects.  Some members there are looking for additional glass to be made as well. They were talking about having the glass made state side.

So, The upper windshields were made.  Now the drivers/passengers windshield is what they are looking to have made state side.

Keep in mind,  being that a business is NOT handling these. There has been some trust issues from what we have heard. We offered to assist but, so far things seem to be under other leadership for this next order as the original person has had medical issues and has been in the Hospital. Communication was lacking because of the medical.

But, you can join the page real easy and it is posted on the first few pages.

We as a company are in the works of reproducing new lenses for a few different bus models as they are no longer offered.  Models  PD3753 PD4151  PD4106   Some lenses may cross over to your bus I understand.  Production will be limited.
