I need to get my alternator drive pulley off the jack shaft. I removed the 2 Allen screws that were bolted into the holes, put a puller on it and broke a portion of the back groove off where the puller engaged.
Now what?
It looks like it is in 2 pieces, the outer pulley and the inside bushed bore. It may be rusted/seized together. I tapped on the back side pretty hard but no go.
First things first. I have to get it off. How????
David
Okay,
I called San Antonio Belt and Pulley and sent them pictures.
After studying this, they told me to tap the outer pulley toward the inside and it will slide off the bushing, but the whole assembly comes off at the same time.
So I did that and it slid right off. I took a small chisel and spread the bushing and it broke in half, but it can still be reused that way. The 3 pieces all came off together.
Now, is there any way I can weld this little piece back on the pulley? It is cast iron. I can grind off any slag that is in the track.
David
That is called a taper lock pully ,buy you a new center they are not hard to find

Oh my, I wish I would have posted here first. I did not know what is was called. Plenty of u tube videos on easy removal. Man I feel stupid and will have to pay for it.

Yes, but you did a lot of big things correctly, and now you know about this little nugget. You are still ahead of the pack. The belt should stay on the pulley even with the missing piece for now, just get the center if you can't get the pulley.
We use Baum Hydraulic from omaha as a vendor for everything like that. They can normally hook you up. I dont know of any warehouses closer to you.
I use Baum also good company to work with. You might check Surplus Center in Lincoln Ne also. They will have the taper lock bushing for sure but that pulley might be a issue.
I knew a good welder (better than me) that could weld cast iron really well. He fixed a pulley for me once that I broke like yours trying to pull it off.
After viewing some u tube videos on welding cast iron, I fired up the cracker box and cut a groove between the parts with my fine wheel grinder and carefully welded the pieces back together with 6013 rod.
Pinged and polished the weld, and it looks really good.
I cleaned all the parts and put it back on. The only reason I messed with this part is because 4 years ago when I replaced my alternator, the new one could only be mounted in the old bracket aligned one belt grove off. I had the belt with full contact on the alternator pulley and only 2 grooves of contact on the power drive pulley. One belt groove was hanging over the edge. After 4 years the belt finally gave up.
Since I needed a new belt this was the moment to figure how to align these pulleys. Sliding the taper bushing pulley 3/4" inward on the shaft did the trick. You can see the difference of the pulley placement on the shaft from the original picture in my first post.
San Antonio Belt and Pulley had a hard time finding the belt. Supply chain shortages. They found one from a supplier in Iowa. It's on the way and will arrive next week.
All is well again.
Thanks,
David
David,
Check the Eagles International site, Beltguy has a complete pulley for you for the price of shipping.

Thanks Walter,
I posted this over on the Eagle board to land it in the tech archives. It will be helpful for the next guy that does this.

David, you are not the 1st to break the belt groove :^Some Eagles with the 8v92 have a front pulley rubber mounted that takes a special puller, people pull those apart and the pulley cost $1500.00 so do don't sweat it

That's why we need to get those "how to" or rather "how not to" work on this or that part of our coach posted on the forums.:o
