Title: Prevost owners check in please
Post by: freds on December 18, 2021, 10:01:01 AM
Hi There

I know of at least three of us on here with the 1980 models.

Yesterday I tried ordering parts from the Prevost parts web site:

https://partsassist.prevostcar.com/ (https://partsassist.prevostcar.com/)

You have to first email them at:
group.prevost.parts.manual@volvo.com

Requesting a cash/credit card account giving your address and contact info along with the serial number or vin of your bus.

There is a YouTube video about the web site but it basically covers how to get signed up and it is out of date.

After thrashing around with the web site here's my feedback. They want you to use a VIN number and my 1980 bus predates the VIN number change over and for some reason my bus is not in their list with it's serial number.

Though they do have older bus that are selectable by serial number, so weird.

So rather then going the serial number/vin path I select part number search.

The initial item I wanted was the baggage compartment gas struts as they no longer hold all the doors up. Which is in my parts manual as 48-0137 which you have to do a part search as 480137 on the web site.

The next item I wanted was a window gap seal for the drivers and passengers sliding windows and the part number was no longer valid.

So the trick is to search for the window glass part number and when you click what looks like a play button it brings up the assembly diagram and the bill of materials which then let me find out what the current part number was for the seal.

Note not all the assembly diagrams show a button that allows you to add an item to the shopping/quote cart. Also the assembly diagram is initially shown as very tiny, so you have enlarge it on the tool bar and some diagrams have multiple pages to view.

Anyway I requested a quote for ten different parts and it will be interesting to see what the success rate is given the age of my bus...

Drivers & Pass window rubber seal    291586 Seal Rubber Sliding Glass

Give Jean Ruel a call directly in Quebec, has been with Prevost since the early 80's and is the go to guy to consult with on the vintage Frenchy buses. Cell 1-418-558-2804 jean.ruel@volvo.com

  Good luck! ;)

Hey Fred,
Mini Prevo Ted checking in...!
Ditto in Jean Ruel. He got the door gas shocks for the guy that had the bus before me. Prevost Parts sent the previous owner what they were SURE was the correct interior "open the big door" handle and he got it the week I got the bus. He handed it to me in the box. That is the third one that is WRONG. The serial number is correct but it does not come close to fitting in the door or working the door open mechanism. We are still opening the door with a loop of cable sticking out the top of the interior panel. Kind of a classy touch on a premier coach don't ya think?? Good news is I have seen 2 other Prevosts of similar age with the same modification! It always works. Maybe I should leave it alone. Maybe let Jean take a run at it. I enjoyed conversing yesterday and will tell you what I see at the scrap yard that has 8 crashed or burned Prevost buses. Might be some bay doors, hinges or a rear view mirror for some of our fellow BCM guys that need them.

Don't forget to try Luke at US Coach. He got me trani housing and filter, bump stops, 6V92 fuel filters and other things for "my old bus". All new in the box stuff and all things Prevost said "Sorry....your bus is too old for us to stock that stuff", I don't even call them anymore. If Luke can't find it I just carve it...

One good thing about Prevost in later years they give you the manufactures name and parts numbers in the manuals

Most use store front locks for replacement if you have the thin lock Prevost used for years it was made in England  and I forgot the name now

I want to convert at least a couple of my doors from rubber hinges to pantograph where they swing out and up vertical to the ground. I have 45 inch wide bay doors on my bus.

So very much interested in that style hardware.

Oh yeah I also need a fuel tank cap. Some prior genius removed it and replaced it with a rubber cap so they could run a copper tube into the fuel tank to feed fuel to the generator when they had problems with the normal aux fuel line feed. I might have to remove riveted skin on the bus to fix this.

Thanks

I have a 1984 converted by Liberty Coach.  It was one of the last 96" motor homes they built, so the 102" serial numbers overlap around that time.  I have to be extra careful when ordering parts from Prevost, but generally have good results.  Definitely a few misses though, and they can be a real inconvenience.

I was all excited because I found Visone RV. They have pictures of about 8 crashed or burned Prevost they parted out. Four of them were older and had the rubber bumpers on the front of the front bumper that I have been looking for. Too late. Sold all of them, mostly still connected to the bumper someone wanted. I felt like Charlie Brown with Lucy holding the football......rats!
So if anyone knows of a junk or crashed Prevost sitting behind a fence. I tried Obewan Kanobie as my last hope, but Jean in Quebec looked up the part and said....none is stock and none coming. He did tell me a few things about my vehicle that made it worth the call!
Have a safe Holiday all..
Ted
