Title: What would my 8v92t be worth on its own?
Post by: hogi6123 on November 28, 2021, 08:09:31 PM
Well, I need to sell my bus now.  For several reasons I am not sure I will be able to get much more than scrap price for it.  My current question is, What would be an estimate of the value of a 8v92t non-ddec and a ht740?  I don't have any documentation for them but they run great.

Usually the problem with selling an object that heavy and large is the shipping and handling ..>>>Dan

You can probably get $3500.00 without documention if you are lucky, that is one thing there is no shortage of is the 8v82 with a 740 the milatry dumped 1000's on the market and they are selling cheap for parts.Post your location I know a person looking for MCI parts bus maybe I could hook you 2 up

Thanks.  That's a little less than I expected, since I've heard it can cost tens of thousands to rebuild.  The bus (mc-9) is currently located near Seattle but is complete and driveable, the front suspension anchors are rusted badly but are holding for now.  Not much other rust.

They do cost to rebuild if you had the paper work you could probably get 5 grand from some one in need of a engine PM me what you want for the complete bus as is were is

Nobody gets anywhere close to the money out of a rebuild engine. Not now, not then, never.

You rebuild an engine for yourself to run for the long term, you don't rebuild an engine for the next guy, cuz the next guy won't be paying for a pig-in-a-poke, proper documentation is good for a bit more beer money.

And then if we talk about selling to busnuts...

It gets worse.

Happy coaching!

Heck, I wouldn't mind one as a spare to display in my garage! My wife would probably go Lorena Bobbitt on me though.

Value depends on how bad the buyer needs/ wants it . . . .

I bought a 425hp 8V92T out of a Peterbilt cabover for less than $2k - after seeing it run & drive.

Yours will be worth more to a MC9 owner . . . .

Based on my personal experience - it is easier & cheaper (time, effort & $$$) to sell it as a driveable unit & NOT part it out.

Good luck

I have tried parting vehicles and selling the parts in the past... I agree not worth it.
