Title: Need help finding eagle suspension parts
Post by: 6805eagleguy on November 24, 2021, 07:01:05 AM
Attached is a picture of current parts I am seeking. Upper a-arm bushings. This is for my 68 05. Eagle parts number not helping me lol

The rubber bushings don't look bad from the outside. There are two pieces on each side with an 01 number (01-0101-007). My 1969 manual lists another number after that, 33-85-016, which might be a supplier number. Apparently this style was used on serial numbers 6101 through 7742, serial 7743 and up used the newer style (05-0107--018), which is available on eBay and elsewhere. Whether the newer style could be adapted to your control arm is an unknown, but I would not be surprised if you could do it.

Have you had your current bushing apart to see what condition it is inside? Maybe the bushing is close enough to some other part on another vehicle and will fit with some trimming.

Walter, could you get pics of your 10 manuals for me? Trying to figure out the difference here.

Trying to decide what itd take to go with a model 10 front end. Bigger brakes and probably easier to find parts

Mason,

I checked all the manuals from 01 to 15, and your 01 style front suspension is pictured in photo 026. Serial #7743 and up is pictured in photo 027. The ten and fifteen manuals show parts to be identical to the later Model 05, at least for the upper control arm and king pin. Beyond the different upper control arm bushings, the major difference is the presence of the drop forged Front Suspension Crossmember, which the newer style bushing is bolted to. As we discovered earlier, you do not have that crossmember, which is the center jacking point. You would be faced with an awful lot of work changing the whole front over, but you have already done quite a bit that others would not attempt.

One gem that I discovered in the 1981 Model 10 manual are notations by Orva Norris of Jefferson Truck & Bus, dated 11-3-92, (photo 028) that state that Model 05 Eagles from #8962 and up, have straight king pins the same as Eagle 10's. That might indicate that most of the other parts are the same as well. I will post this message on the Eagles International site so that you can zoom in on the pictures better. (Two pictures was all I could fit on this site).

Lot of the time where the rods are on the bulk head they rust out and you turn the adjustment till it finds something solid, lol one time I had to use a come a long on mine to get home

Mason if it was me I would fix what I had after doing that job once.Kaiser in OR installed wider brake shoes and drums on the front of my 05 using a offset brake shoe it was pricy and I could not tell any difference in stopping.I have the wider shoes, backing plate and drums for the rear they are a lot easier to do.That front end is heavy my tractor will not pick it up so I know it weighs more than 8v92

I measured my Model 10 front and the Torsilastic tubes are about 5' 2" long, and the axle hubs are 8' wide, stud to stud. If it weighs more than a 8V92, depending on accessories, that would put it in the area of 3500 - 4000 lbs. Perfect load for a Ford dually F350 or 450. The problem will be loading it with some cribbing. Mason, did you get the pictures of the Model 15 front that I sent you?

I may be all wet, but I used Uship (uship.com) for a piece of family furniture my wife wanted.  Reasonably priced, and unbelievably well wrapped and cared for.  They seem to be an on-line broker, matching shippers with carriers -- not sure if commercial carriers are included.  Looks like everything, up to heavy equipment.

My other option (to keep She Who Must Be Obeyed happy) was a 3500 mile round trip, so well worth the $500 or so.

I wonder how they'd load/unload something that big and heavy, but it might be worth contacting them.

I use YouShip all the time and love them. You do not need to crate it, just a way to lift it up onto a trailer. When he schedules the shipment with them just list it as a piece of "Machinery" with no crating. It will go nicely on a flat bed and can be chained down with very little effort.

I moved a piece of equipment (close to the same size) from Miami Florida to Boston, MA last year for $500

clifford, would that be bogie brakes or drive axle brakes?

someone 'cough' upgraded me to normal parking brakes at somepoint on rear axle. brake drums on rear axle are physically twice as wide as bogie and steer brakes, right now.

im just figuring that front end components are completely worn out. All along, i figured on bigger brakes at one point on the front and bogie.

maybe someone can tell me here. since i have a model 01 front end, is it worth it to change to later model front end components or shall i just try fix what i have. Im getting the impression that parts are non existent or else very hard to find for 01 front end components...

Any clue what it cost us last time to have a boom truck sling load just the engine on my trailer back in 2019? I know the prices went through the roof as of early 2021 and can imagine what they are now.

There are independent carriers who can do it for you. You've seen these guys in a pickup truck with a gooseneck trailer, They would be happy to take the job.

Check out those guys featured in "shipping wars". Personally, I'd  go pick it up. Nothing like an enjoyable road trip. We travelled from central Pa. to Datona in Fla. to pick up a differential for our coach. Used a TDI Jetta. Made it ride low, but worked ok.

Another way to load it if a trailer is involved, is to lift each side up enough to put some heavy timbers under, and then winch it up the tailgate onto the bed. Cliff's tractor might not be able to lift the whole thing, but surely it could tilt it up enough.

Mason if you go thru all the work to up grade to a newer front end why not use a prevost independent front suspension.  I know I just diluted my eagle purist bias but as hard as Eagle parts are to get it might make sense.

Clifford, still wondering about this. I think it's been done before to swap bogie arms with model 15, which I've heard have wider brakes. Never heard of putting bigger brakes on drive axle. Curious about this

I changed the brakes on the boggies on the 05 to 15 brakes. If you can't load the boggies heavy enough you will have problems sliding the tires. Some have put a air reduction valve to help that.
Also I changed the drive brakes on the drive to a model 10 . You have to change everything from the spiders out including the hubs. The brake chambers do hang down a little lower  to make thing fit. I haven't hit anything in over 100000 miles.

Well ending up following Cliffords advise. Kinda. lol. Bought this 1971 sight unseen for a ridiculously low price on auction. 1971 front end will probably end up in out bus. It has about 4" of thread left for adjustment.

It happened to be about 4 miles from Waynes (rusty) house so I got to see his model 15. After seeing his disk brake conversion on his front end the gears are turning inside my head.... :)
