Title: DDEC 4 help?
Post by: Jim Blackwood on November 13, 2021, 09:19:14 AM
The background is this: Fresh 12.7L S60 with manual transmission in a Peterbilt truck, somehow a short fried the controller and it was replaced with one from another truck. Startup was successful and the truck starts and drives but has warning lights. Belongs to my brother and I told him I'd ask for help here since several of you guys seem to know what's up with these DDEC4's.

He has a ProLink and has given me the following information. He has two flash codes which are 62 and 63.

He also has 5 active faults from the ProLink which he will get me more information about today, 3 of those are Aux Output faults. His suspicion is that the replacement controller may not be configured correctly for his truck.

Apparently DD is reticent about sharing information about the wiring connections, so he has no way to determine what those aux outputs go to or to trace the wiring.

What do you think?

AUX outputs  are assigned by the OEM DD has nothing to with those ,he is going to have to find out what it is assigned to from PeterBuilt it could be anything,I would be looking for bare wire shorted out to what ever it is assigned to or a bent pin where it plug ends

Thanks, I'll ask him about that. What about the flash codes 62 and 63? Shouldn't those be the same as what we get with the DL?

Jim

I never saw a ignition module on the Dl that would cause code 63 ,62 will pop up on some Dl's with a wheel chair lift

I guess he is having a problem connecting with his ProLink. Said the cables looked like they were in pretty good shape. Anyway he told me flash code 62 Aux outputs 5, 7 and 8. Flash code 63 PWM driver 2 & 3. It starts and runs fine and if he knew how I expect he could turn off those alarm codes. But now there's some sort of communications problem. His ProLink can't detect the ECM now.

Seems to me the problem is that the controller came out of a different truck, he thinks maybe a Freuhauf, and isn't set up for his Pete. Guy he got it from is supposed to be pretty sharpish, but it seems the schematic for his truck is hard to get for any kind of reasonable money. ($1000 seems a tad bit high) He told me the series, it's Model 378. I asked what went wrong with his old controller and he said there is a component inside that gets old and burns out. Have you ever heard about that?
