Title: 24 volt alternator
Post by: Gary W on October 26, 2021, 12:00:24 PM
Has anyone had trouble with the 24volt Delco Remy Alternator   in MCI 102A bus. When I start it up I am getting 28 volts then it drops to 24 and the no charge light comes on. I am trying to get generator current control switch checked to see if it is working. When the air gets to 80psi the switch is suppose to get alternator charging . It is at the shop now and they are going to check the switch then the alternator before removing it, then I will have it rebuilt if necessary .

Thanks Gary

Does your bus sit with the batteries plugged in?

Did you have any loads turned on, headlights, fans, when the "no gen" came on?

It might just be throttled all the way back by the regulator, stranger things have happened...

Happy coaching!

I had a similar problem.

We found a crack across the lug attached to the alternator.

After replacing, everything returned to normal.

The shop I took the coach to checked the alternator removed it after testing it and I took it in for a rebuild.

I'm  assuming it is a belt drive 50 do. If gear drive, make sure to have the oiling update kit done if not already.
