Who would pay anything for an air conditioner or dehumidifier that is known not to work? The chances of getting something broken like that to work are slim to none. I wonder if the store is trying to save the cost of shipping back to manufacturer, or the cost of legally disposing of them? How many buyers would actually legally dispose of these if they can't get them working.
Stores will spray products that can't be returned so someone can't get a store credit for the product. I bought some products liquidated by Home Depot. Home Depot had painted the products so they couldn't be returned. The products work just fine and the spray paint doesn't affect the use.
Besides that the spray paint just accents the ambiance of my abode. Jack
