How does one know which DDEC II you have, and how do you determine which software you need?

I bought a Pro-Link for 1990s GM cars, then bought the DDEC II cartridge separately  -  it's cheaper this way!   The reason for the old GM car scanner is that nobody wants them now, so they're dirt cheap, and they have the correct 12-pin plug so you won't have to buy the expensive adapter instead.

PS  -  Anyone here want two 1990s GM car Pro-Link cartridges for free?!   Just wondering...
