630k boy, If I had that kind of money I would NOT buy it.lol
It would need a drive train...
I'd have bought it in a minute--if the building and the old Ford came with it. Sure is nice. Jack
There is a dealer in Idaho that restores Air Stream ,I stopped for a tour people are spending 2 to 300k to restore a $10,000 Air Stream from the 60's ;D

Quote[/size]Dearest Mike at mmalamut- thanks for your good thoughts. I do wish that you had bought Calypso. We had so much into her that we did not even break even. I guess that is the nature of this game. What should seem like a big win has actually proven a loss for us. I am definitely done with restorations. Love of the process and the art be damned. I was too ambitious and expected the vintage trailer market to support a larger prize by now, relative to other luxury items like automobiles. I am exhausted. BaT is a wonderful, professional auction house, and their crew did an extraordinary job, but this exciting, seemingly enormous sale still did not bring us into the Promised Land. That is the cruel irony of this situation. Years go past, a work of art is born, a lucky soul will surely appreciate her without having put in the blood, sweat and tears. I never even got to drink a glass of wine in her beautiful presence or enjoy her for a night in a gorgeous place. I am sad about that, but that is life, I guess. Some gambles just don't pay off, but it was still an amazing ride! Take care, Mike, and thanks again for your support. You are clearly a wiser man than I am.

Sounds like he went into the resto with the hope of making a buck. Not the wisest choice if you ask me, as no matter how strong the vintage trailer market it's not that strong. Sounds different than the people paying to have vintage Airstreams restored who are by and large doing it because they want an old Airstream to enjoy.
If he had used this beautiful trailer for a few years he would have gotten value from it. Unfortunately, the way he did things the only enjoyment he got was the build process itself, which is the most expensive part.
It's all similar to us in the bus world. Very few will ever see their money back when they sell a vintage bus. The money is spent because we enjoy owning & using the old buses, not because we consider it an investment.
Too bad they don't build those anymore. AIRSTREAM comes as close as you can get now. That looks sharp and beautiful inside but you still need a pickup truck to pull it.
