Title: Bay door keeper
Post by: windtrader on August 14, 2021, 02:36:53 PM
Not seen this topic so ..

I've heard what can happen when a bay door lets go while someone is leaning in but not heard if you all secure the door with the pin when it's open. I've not done that but recently the door does not always stay up so I started using the pin to secure it safely.

Do you adjust the tension? It looks like it can be done. Just curious. And not wanting a broken back. lol

You can loosen the bolt and slide that holding knob/keeper around, it has a slotted hole for adjustment.  There should be one on each side of the door.

Several of mine are broken off.

I replaced my broken ones and adjusted them. I sometimes use the pins, it kinda depends on how long the door is going to be open. Easy to use.

That was easy. maybe so obvious nobody was dumb enough to post the question. Indeed, there are two bolts to adjust the keeper. Took one minute. thanks.

Still, did make a note about using the pin if there is any chance the door could fall while working with it open.

Use the pins, everytime, all the time.

Ran these in service, damned doors will not just injure you, they can KILL you!!

I would retrofit the pins onto every older MCI... that little spring piece that holds the door is getting tired and worn... the mounting points for the door springs... anyone inspect those regularly? Rotting out with corrosion...

It's just a habit, grab the lever, up it goes, other hand puts in the pin.

You will quickly get the habit to seek the pin first, before pulling down the door.

The time you don't... if you live, you will wish you did for the rest of your disabled life.

And if it comes down on a loved one, old or young...

Just do it.

Happy coaching!

Will make sure to secure with the pin. Maybe I should leave it set loose so you have to use it. LOL

It doesn't seem too hard to devise an auto latching feature so when the door opens fully, the pin can automatically slip into place.
