Where are you finding 40wt oil for our old detroit and what are the specifications. My book only shows MIL grade numbers. :)
Delo 100 is the gold standard, but I use Miles All-Spec; meets the certification requirements and it's significantly cheaper and more available (Amazon can deliver it).
Summit Racing has Mobil Delvac 40 that they will ship directly to your house.
Try the mobil delvac, I think you'll be happy with the results...
I get Shell Rotolo from Tractor Supply
I found O'Reilly auto parts to be the cheapest for delo 100

FYI, when I first got my MCI, there was a case of Chevron's Delo 100 in one of the bays. I used that, and was having to add a gallon about every 800-900 miles. After finding out that Detroit's Power Guard 40, the factory fill oil, was actually Mobil Delvac 1240 that was private labeled, I switched to that on my next oil change. Interestingly, my oil consumption dropped, with the Delvac I was now going about 1500 miles before having to add a gallon.
That's just been my experience with those two brands. I've never used Shell's Rotella T, or the Miles Spec, so I can't comment on those. Rotella seems to be popular primarily because it's a little easier to find and also a little less expensive.

Ditto on the reduced oil consumption in switching from Delo to Delvac.
Ditto on the reduced oil consumption. Summit racing has it on sale now at $15.25 a gallon now. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mob-104056-1
Dello goes through a two stroke like $#!% through a Goose IMO.
LOL took me years of bashing here to even get you guys to try Delvac 1240

Thanks for the tip, Bill! I know they put it on sale periodically, so the timing is right for today's discussion!
Delvac comes four gallons to a case, so I just ordered two cases (8 gallons), enough for an oil change for my engine. I already have three gallons, so I'll still have some spares.
Hidden bonus:
Free shipping if your order is over $99, so, with sales tax, my order came to $132.77. Your price may vary due to sales tax differences.

Looks like the 5 gallon pails are on sale as well, $13.50/gallon

Thanks guys. I ordered 20 gallons.
Just ordered a pale, Thanks!
Many thanks for the heads up! I have been waiting for the 1240 to go on sale again at Summit Racing and just grabbed a few pails myself.
Now that we know where to get the good oil at a good price I need to change the transmission fluid in Huggy She has v730.
What is the new stuff that is supposed to be good and where can i get it without breaking my bank account.

Glad I read this forum. Was going to offer "Straight 40 Rotella at Tractor Supply". My 90 year old father in law and the 2 surviving members of his FMCA group of long ago with 4104, 4106, Scenic cruisers, Flxibles, all tell me " Rotella straight 40 is top drawer, the cat's wiskers, use nothing else...". So that is what I have used for my 2 oil changes so far. It works, but always willing to switch to something better! Who knew....until you read this forum.
From a GM guy,,," Scenicruiser" is one word..>>>Dan
Judging from the photo - new oil stored in the pit, - I like variety! The fact of the matter is I buy it when it's on sale... The current oil in the bus crankcase is over a year old with less than 500 miles on it parked/stored in air conditioned space. I plan to get put more miles on it - comments?
TIA
Yeah, Nice maintenance pit!
