Title: Canadian border workers strike
Post by: chessie4905 on August 05, 2021, 09:36:00 AM
Canadian border agents plan to strike to rule on Friday. A three year contract dispute with no resolution has come to a head. The border agents will begin working "by the book". Long delays, with great backups will be expected. Just when the border is to be open. Great.

3 years without a contract is inexcusable on the governments part. They are talking now according to the news.

probably shutting the border down again anyway. From what I have read, some of the demands seem pretty difficult for management to go along with. And those agents haven't been that busy with border closed.

Here in CA, we have to wear masks again everywhere when inside. You need a reservation now to enter Yosemite or else can get a time stamped pass to go right on through. No stopping. late or stopping can garner a large fine. Using Covid as an excuse. What the he#% is this country coming to? People getting paid to get vaccinated and previous vaccination doesn't matter. WEAR A MASK!???

Top of Michigan, in Sault Ste Marie, on Monday, the back-up of evacuees was turning into 3 hour delay for trans-border trucking.

Too many campers and boats in the way, and a steady stream being turned back for failing to have done all the required pre-arrival procedures.

Happy coaching!

Afraid this new Covid will shut down upcoming meets, the Canadian Border again (like they needed an excuse) and put the kids back at home. Big fights over masking the kids in Atlanta Schools and I guess other states same thing. Hate to see lots more kids getting this and getting pretty sick. Frustrating, but I am old. Suck it up. Imagining being a kid again and this is new normal? Dammit.

My wife and I are both born and raised in California. As of November of 2020, we now happily live in Nampa, Idaho. Reminds us what California was like 40 years ago. People here are polite and friendly-almost doesn't seem real. Good Luck, TomC

They will tell you they won't use an eche in the wash or rinse..  It's a lie,, all cities now require them to recycle all water, and it's impossible to remove after so many recycles..>>>Dan

Or is it from the alkali in the water? Try that stuff in the rinse they use in dishwashers that eliminates water spots on glasses.
I thought that ceramic coating on your coach eliminated water spots.

Doesn't eliminate water spots I can tell you, but they do come off easy.I never have problems when I use the rinse less wash at home with R/O water

Detroit Free Press
"Nearly 9,000 Canada Border Services Agency employees are going on strike beginning today (Aug. 6) – just three days before the border is set to open to vaccinated U.S. travelers on Monday. Union members warn this could cause long delays at the border, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.

Both the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Customs and Immigration Union served a strike notice to the Canadian government on Tuesday (Aug. 3), according to a news release. The strike is set to begin at 6 a.m. on Friday.

"We truly hoped we wouldn't be forced to take strike action, but we've exhausted every other avenue to reach a fair contract with the government," said Chris Aylward, Public Service Alliance of Canada national president, in the release. "Treasury Board and CBSA have been clear they aren't prepared to address critical workplace issues at CBSA at the bargaining table."

Union members and border officers have been without a contract since June 2018, and they said this is the breaking point.

"We've been on the front lines of Canada's reaction to the COVID-19 crisis and the government has just not given us respect at the bargaining table," said Richard Savage, first national vice president for the Customs and Immigration Union."

Dan, like you I hate facing the "new reality" of getting older.  If Tok is the real new reality grab it and shake it real hard.  Tok to the homestead will become the same thrill as was the entire trek.  Trust me in this.  Jack

Tom, that is old news. They have settled, and are working as usual.

Jack not only is the trust there but also is the mindset. It's cool how we ended up conversing in unison on different boards at similar times. Thanks, advise well taken... :^
